The flow of trade and culture
The Thu Bon River flows closely with the flow of the Quang Nam region. Through the ups and downs of time, scattered along both banks of the river from upstream to downstream, there are still many valuable "remnants" in the form of eco -tourism villages and typical traditional craft villages of Quang Nam such as: Dai Binh village (Nong Son); Ban Thach mat-making village (Duy Xuyen); Phuoc Kieu bronze casting village (Dien Ban); Thanh Ha pottery village, Cam Kim carpentry village (Hoi An)...
Even richer than natural resources are two UNESCO World Heritage sites: the ancient town of Hoi An and the My Son temple complex, both closely associated with the Thu Bon River.
It will be an unforgettable journey for tourists, starting from Hoi An ancient town, sailing up the Thu River to explore the many local values of the region, and ending the journey at the mysterious My Son temple complex.

Mr. Le Ngoc Thuan, the founder of the "Floodwood Village" project in Cam Ha, Hoi An City, believes that the Thu Bon River is not simply a river, but a waterway of trade, culture, and art, contributing to the creation of heritage for Quang Nam. He hopes that in the near future, the craft villages along the Thu Bon River will be more creative with unique products and stories to survive and, importantly, connect into an "ecosystem" for sustainable development based on tourism.
Surveys and calls for the development of tourism services related to this river have been ongoing for a long time, but when assessing the potential for exploiting river tourism on the Thu Bon River, all relevant parties agree that the tourism products are not yet truly attractive to tourists and are also hampered by regulations regarding planning and transportation.
We need to promote collaboration among the parties.

At the national scientific conference "Duy Xuyen in the process of national history," recently held to commemorate the 420th anniversary of the name Duy Xuyen (1604 - 2024), many experts suggested the need to research and develop unique service products, and organize various art, cultural, and festival activities right on the river to attract tourists on tours.
Simultaneously, organize the planning of wharves and connect tourist attractions and craft villages, creating a tourist route that can connect Hoi An ancient town with many famous traditional craft villages of Quang Nam and the My Son temple complex.
According to Mr. Van Ba Son, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in order to promote the exploitation of the tourism potential of the Thu Bon River, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has proposed to the authorities of Hoi An City, Dien Ban Town, and Duy Xuyen District to study the content of cooperation and linkage among the three localities to form river tourism routes on the Thu Bon River and its tributaries.
At the same time, local planning for wharves and docks should be reviewed to include investment in serving tourist transportation, connecting tourist attractions, craft villages, etc. More investment is needed in tourism infrastructure and beautifying the landscape on both sides of the river.
Initially, the three localities need to coordinate with interested businesses, along with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and relevant departments and units, to conduct a survey of the route in order to develop a product development plan. The Department will support connecting with travel agencies and investors inside and outside the province to conduct surveys and develop investment and exploitation plans. Simultaneously, it will provide training on management and exploitation of destination services according to the unit's work plan.
Mr. Van Ba Son - Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism
According to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in order to truly create unique tourism value for the Thu Bon River, it is necessary to integrate culture with tourism to create a distinctive cultural feature of Quang Nam and the locality, helping to diversify river tourism products.

In addition, attention should be paid to the role of businesses, creating an open and transparent mechanism, proposing a management mechanism for the development model of river tourism; calling on businesses to participate in investing in river tourism tours and routes, and at the same time investing in passenger transport vessels that ensure quality and safety so that tourists can both enjoy the scenery and relax.
