Assessment of irrigation planning to 2030, vision to 2050

According to the report of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment , in the Red River - Thai Binh River basin, there are 30 irrigation systems with a scale of over 2,000 hectares, about 22,620 irrigation works, including: 2,461 reservoirs, 16,826 dams, 2,652 pumping stations, 681 sluices, 66,000 km of canals, 2,500 concentrated rural water supply works. Irrigation works ensure water supply for millions of hectares of cultivated land, 151 thousand hectares of aquaculture. The reservoir system participates in flood prevention and control with a total capacity to cut and reduce floods for downstream areas.

Tuyen Quang province has 2,800 irrigation works, mainly small and medium-sized works. These works have provided large amounts of water for production and people's daily life. However, due to adverse impacts of nature, climate change, requirements for socio-economic development, and ensuring water security, problems have been raised for irrigation work in the basin.

At the meeting, delegates focused on discussing and clarifying the difficulties and limitations of the current irrigation system in the province, while updating new factors such as climate change and local socio-economic development needs.

Speaking at the meeting, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee Nguyen The Giang emphasized the key role of the irrigation system in ensuring irrigation water for agricultural production, aquaculture, as well as providing water for daily life and other economic sectors in the province.

This planning review is an opportunity for Tuyen Quang to comprehensively review the potentials and challenges, thereby proposing more effective and sustainable planning solutions. The Vice Chairman of the People's Committee requested that districts and cities carefully review the projects to include in the construction planning, avoiding the omission of projects. The Department of Agriculture and Environment, based on the summary reports of the districts and cities, will complete the proposal for the People's Committee to sign and send to the Government for investment and construction.
