US Republican Party: The race to the White House is getting more exciting

According to AP, Mr. Pence's candidacy will help people better understand whether the GOP wants a candidate who is socially conservative, moderate and has deep religious beliefs. Notably, Mr. Pence has criticized the populist wave that has overwhelmed the GOP under President Donald Trump.

Additionally, a CNN poll last month found that 45% of Republicans and GOP supporters would not back Pence under any circumstances. Only 16% said the same about Trump.

A day earlier, Mr. Chris Christie opened his election campaign with a harsh criticism of Mr. Trump.

Mr Christie was an adviser to Mr Trump's successful 2016 campaign. However, the relationship between the two men became strained after Mr Trump alleged fraud in the 2020 election.

A former federal prosecutor, Mr. Christie has presented himself as the only GOP candidate willing to take on Mr. Trump head-on. But recent polls show he is unpopular with GOP voters.

Reuters news agency commented that the crowded GOP race could pave the way for a victory for Mr. Trump - currently the most promising candidate - because this could help split the anti-Trump vote, allowing this character to win the nomination similar to what happened in 2016.

According to some political analysts' estimates, Mr. Trump's loyal supporters now account for one-third of GOP voters, and this could help Mr. Trump win the race.
