(CLO) Despite suffering great damage after Typhoon Yagi (Typhoon No. 3), these days, kumquat growers in Tu Lien village (Tay Ho district, Hanoi) are busy taking care of and pruning their trees to supply ornamental plants to the market before the traditional Tet holiday.
Recorded on the morning of December 10 at Tu Lien kumquat village, many garden owners in the village were busy taking care of, pruning, and transporting kumquat pots to special care areas to serve the bonsai needs of customers.
Mr. Hoang Luan (54 years old), owner of Hoang Gia kumquat garden (Tu Lien village, Tay Ho district, Hanoi) said that at this time, most gardeners here are busy taking care of kumquat pots, from pruning to adding nutrients so that the trees bloom and bear fruit in time for the Lunar New Year 2025.
“A month ago, our garden planted kumquat trees in pots to serve the Tet holiday. Kumquat trees come in many different sizes from small to large, with many different prices. This is the most important stage for this year’s kumquat trees,” the owner of the Hoang Gia kumquat garden shared.
According to Mr. Luan, depending on the weather, the care of kumquat trees is also different. If the weather is rainy, limit watering, but in dry weather like the time before Tet, you have to water 1 to 2 times/day to ensure the kumquat tree has enough moisture to grow well.
At this time, most of the kumquat trees in the gardens have been pre-ordered by customers, the number of visitors coming to see is also bustling every day, depending on the purpose of playing, the gardeners will advise the most suitable. "There are many types of kumquat trees, the type that costs a few hundred thousand/tree, the type that costs a few million to a few tens of million/tree is also many", the owner of Hoang Gia garden added.
Sharing with reporters, Ms. Ngo Thi Nga - President of the Kumquat Craft Village Association of Tu Lien Ward said: "The situation of kumquat trees in the locality is the same as every year when there are no floods or storms, there are many trees. However, this year, the output loss is relatively large, nearly 20 hectares, in area 1 (length of road 310 to the border of Nhat Tan ward, area 1800m) there are about 20 hectares of kumquats.
Regarding the quality of the trees, Ms. Nga said that the quality of this year's kumquat trees is also guaranteed, nothing has changed because Tu Lien kumquat trees have been famous for their meticulousness, good care and are famous for their long-standing craft village. Although affected by storm No. 3, the quantity is still not limited.
In Tu Lien kumquat village, during storm No. 4, due to the high terrain, the area in zone 1 was not flooded. The affected area was mainly in zone 7 (bordering the Red River, about 14 hectares) and below the dam was 7 hectares. In zone 1, only about 1 hectare was affected...
“Tu Lien village kumquat trees are diverse in design, the quality is still guaranteed as every year, there is no change. Customers are worried about the price but we have not changed anything and the price is still normal” - Chairman of Tu Lien ward kumquat craft village association emphasized.
At the same time, this person also revealed that if every year, the provinces come to Tu Lien village to import trees for sale, this year the number of visitors coming here to import is much more limited. Regarding the quantity of kumquats to serve the people of Hanoi, it is still enough, it can be said that there is no shortage.
In general, after storm No. 3, the people of Tu Lien kumquat village suffered heavy economic losses. However, with extraordinary determination and encouragement and support from the local government, the people of Tu Lien village have now somewhat stabilized, focusing on taking care of ornamental kumquat trees to be ready to supply the market for the Lunar New Year 2025.
