Having made dried shrimp for over 30 years for the Lunar New Year, Mr. Trinh Van Dien, a resident of Bai Thom commune, said that his family started making dried shrimp in 1990. The shrimp living in the waters around Phu Quoc are small but have sweet, delicious meat. He buys them from fishermen returning from their catches and dries them.
"I see a very promising market for dried shrimp this Tet holiday. Every day I go to buy about 2 tons of fresh shrimp to make dried shrimp. This quantity is dried on the same day and delivered entirely to customers who have placed orders. I sell four types of dried shrimp, and the price ranges from 350,000 to 550,000 VND/kg (depending on the type), an increase of 20,000-30,000 VND/kg compared to normal days," Mr. Dien said.

"I also buy barracuda, snapper, and silverfish to dry and sell during Tet. I make dried fish at home, ensuring safety and cleanliness, and I only make it to order," said Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh, a resident of Bai Thom commune.
According to Tuoi Tre Online , Mr. Dien and other residents of Bai Thom commune, An Thoi ward (Phu Quoc city) have been driving to fishing ports in Phu Quoc city in recent days to buy shrimp, sea fish, and anchovies.
Meanwhile, at the dried seafood processing facility, the workers are always busy, washing shrimp and lighting fires to boil them, in order to produce enough products to deliver to customers for sale during the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Snake 2025.
"I don't have a stable job either. With Tet (Lunar New Year) approaching, I take a job making dried shrimp and earn 300,000 VND per day. I'll work from now until Tet to earn a little extra money to buy sweets, cakes, and new clothes for my children," said Ms. Nguyen Thi Nhan, a resident of Bai Thom commune.
