At this time, most hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City have made plans to ensure smooth emergency care during Tet; at the same time, they have organized many activities to care for the lives and spirits of patients who have to stay in the hospital for treatment.
Emergency care for both internal and external patients
Dr. Mai Duc Huy, Deputy Director of Saigon General Hospital, said that the hospital has developed a detailed plan for each department and room, ensuring emergency and inpatient treatment during Tet. Departments providing medicine and supplies have prepared enough supplies to be ready, and at the same time, they have sent additional staff on duty. The hospital always maintains two emergency teams on duty outside the hospital to ensure emergency work at the scene and meet the needs of the festival as directed by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health. "To facilitate emergency work in small alleys, the hospital proactively coordinates emergency work by motorbike," Dr. Mai Duc Huy informed.
According to Dr. Diep Bao Tuan, Deputy Director of Ho Chi Minh City Oncology Hospital, during the Tet holidays, in addition to ensuring professional work as usual, the hospital has assigned staff in the board of directors and leaders of departments and rooms to be on duty 24/7 to be ready to handle all work.
Cho Ray Hospital has a large number of patients who have to stay for treatment. In addition to the plan to ensure the work of Tet duty, emergency care, medical examination and treatment, this year the hospital continues to maintain the organization of a flower street in the hospital campus, expected to open on February 5. Dr. Nguyen Tri Thuc, Director of Cho Ray Hospital, said that the hospital implemented the construction of Cho Ray flower street with the hope that patients and their families will have a space to visit, entertain, relax, and ease the sadness of being away from home during Tet.
At the National Children's Hospital, Mr. Tran Minh Dien, Director of the hospital, informed that although people are on Tet holiday, the hospital still ensures examination and treatment for pediatric patients, organizing emergency services 24/7. Along with that, families with young children who have to stay in the hospital during the spring will also receive meals, lucky money and New Year gifts from the hospital.
At Viet Duc Hospital, the number of patients with traffic accidents and domestic accidents requiring emergency treatment and surgery often increases during Tet, which is a very stressful and busy time for doctors and nurses. To ensure examination, emergency care and treatment, the hospital has assigned specific schedules to each department and room. At the same time, the hospital maintains the operation of the outpatient emergency team, instills a sense of responsibility and is ready to go to support lower levels when requested.
Ready to respond to epidemics
According to Associate Professor, Dr. Tang Chi Thuong, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, the department has requested public and non-public hospitals to organize emergency care and medical examination and treatment for patients well, such as: stocking enough medicine, blood and blood products, infusion fluids, supplies, chemicals, arranging the number of hospital beds and necessary means and equipment for emergency care and medical examination and treatment. Ensure that all emergency patients are examined and treated promptly, and must not be refused or delayed for any reason; in cases where the patient's condition exceeds professional capacity, the hospital must still provide initial emergency care and fully explain to the patient and the patient's family before transferring to another hospital to ensure patient safety. “Hospitals must develop detailed plans and strategies and organize implementation, ensuring emergency response when disasters, fires, accidents, mass food poisoning occur, and develop plans to mobilize personnel when mobilized by the City Department of Health,” Associate Professor, Dr. Tang Chi Thuong affirmed.
To ensure medical work during the Lunar New Year, Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan has issued a directive requiring units in the whole sector to strengthen medical work, assign 24/24-hour duty to leaders and employees of the unit according to regulations, absolutely not subjective, negligent, or lose vigilance against the epidemic. Organize forces and means to be on duty, monitor and supervise the epidemic's developments and promptly handle arising situations. Hospitals must ensure adequate supplies of medicine, blood, infusion fluids, supplies, chemicals, medical equipment, and medical oxygen; prepare emergency plans for events with large crowds. Arrange a number of hospital beds and means, ready to respond and serve treatment and emergency work, especially emergency care for traffic accidents, fires, injuries, food poisoning and treatment of patients with infectious diseases during the New Year.
K Hospital, in collaboration with the Bright Tomorrow Cancer Patient Support Fund and other functional units, has just organized the Year-end Meal - Happy New Year program, including more than 200 New Year's Eve meals right at the hospital's cafeteria for patients, with the desire to join hands to ease the pain and bring a happy new year to patients. For patients who are not healthy enough to attend the program, the leaders of K Hospital visited each bed to visit, encourage, give Tet gifts and 600 meals.
Right after the New Year's Eve dinner, K Hospital organized 13 charity buses to transport more than 360 patients and their families home for Tet free of charge. According to the plan, on the morning of February 7, K Hospital continued to organize the second batch of charity buses to transport patients and their families home for Tet.
