In addition, the Department of Education and Training of districts and cities regularly establish inspection teams (at least twice a school year) to inspect food sources brought to schools and inspect the stages of preparation, use, and preservation of food in the kitchen.
Ms. Nguyen Bich Dao, Deputy Head of the Department of Education and Training of Van Lang district, said: 100% of the kitchens at 18 kindergartens in the district follow a one-way process, ensuring separate areas for raw and cooked food. According to regulations, each school has from 2 to 5 employees depending on the number of students. The department requires 100% of the cooking staff to have a vocational certificate, receive regular health check-ups, and be fully equipped with knowledge of nutrition and food preparation skills. During work, regulations on the use of gloves, aprons, hats, masks, and separate food dividing tools are strictly implemented.
In the 2024-2025 school year, the province will have 230 kindergartens with nearly 52,000 students, with 100% of children having meals at boarding schools. The province will have over 400 kitchens in kindergartens with over 1,600 cooks, of which 100% have been trained in food safety and hygiene and have regular health check-ups.
Mr. Ho Cong Liem, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training, said: The Department of Education and Training always attaches great importance to ensuring food safety in kitchens in boarding schools in general and kitchens in kindergartens in particular. We not only require schools with collective kitchens to improve the quality of meals by diversifying the menu and increasing the nutritional content of each meal, but also pay special attention to each step in the process of ensuring food safety, from the origin of raw materials to the processing process. In the past 5 school years, the entire sector has not had any cases of food poisoning in school kitchens.
With synchronous solutions and efforts of schools, the quality of meals for preschool children in the province is increasingly guaranteed, the nutritional indicators of each school unit increased from 1 to 2% compared to 5 years ago. According to information provided by the Department of Primary Education - Preschool Education, Department of Education and Training, at the end of the 2023 - 2024 school year in preschools, the rate of children with normal weight and height development was always above 98%, an increase of 1 to 2% compared to the 2019 - 2020 school year; the rate of malnourished children with low weight and stunted growth was 1% to less than 1%, a decrease of 2% compared to the 2019 - 2020 school year...
