On October 29, in Gia Nghia City, the National Agricultural Extension Center, the Department of International Cooperation (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development); the Global Coffee Forum in Vietnam; the Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development organized a workshop on community extension of waste collection and treatment in coffee production.

The workshop was attended by 150 delegates from inside and outside the province, including 80 members of 10 community agricultural extension groups in villages and hamlets in the province.

Coffee is a crop with a large proportion in the agricultural land use structure of the province, accounting for over 35%. The area and output of coffee in the province account for over 18% of the country. Dak Nong coffee ranks third in the country and the Central Highlands, after Dak Lak and Lam Dong provinces.
By the end of 2023, the area is about 142,059 hectares, the output is 360,027 tons, coffee is grown mostly in the districts and Gia Nghia city.
At the workshop, many delegates affirmed that in recent years, many enterprises, cooperatives, cooperative groups and coffee growing households in the province have focused on investing and applying science and technology in care. Harvesting, preservation and processing activities are increasingly valued, so the productivity and quality of coffee in the province have been improved.
In addition to the achieved results, many opinions say that the province's coffee production in recent times still has many problems. In particular, waste and waste after using fertilizers, pesticides such as insecticides, fungicides, growth regulators... have not been collected and treated properly and thoroughly.

Community agricultural extension still faces many difficulties such as infrastructure, containers, collection, and effective and thorough treatment models for waste in coffee production.

Community agricultural extension needs specific support in terms of operating mechanisms and the roles of stakeholders such as the State, businesses, and international organizations in supporting and mobilizing resources to collect and treat waste in coffee production in the long term.

Speaking at the conference, Director of the National Agricultural Extension Center Le Quoc Thanh affirmed that after the workshop, the center will connect with relevant parties to develop and specify the process of collecting and treating waste in coffee production.
It emphasizes that waste is treated according to the process, properly, ensuring safety, benefits for producers and the community in a closed value chain.
