Pioneer cooperatives

The Hoang Nguyen Organic Agricultural Cooperative in Dak Song district has 202 households cultivating 700 hectares of clean pepper, of which 197 hectares are certified organic according to Japanese, American, EU, and Canadian standards. Over the years, the Hoang Nguyen Cooperative has provided guidance on organic pepper production techniques to farmers, resulting in numerous benefits.

Mr. Dao Van Nga, a member of Hoang Nguyen Cooperative, shared that the first benefit of organic farming is bringing health benefits to oneself and consumers, as well as protecting the soil and clean water environment.

"Working in the pepper garden is pleasant and free from harmful chemicals, and I feel comfortable. In particular, I feel happy to be able to provide a product that is good for consumers' health," Mr. Nga shared.

Hoang Nguyen Cooperative is a prime example of the effectiveness and unique value of organic agriculture. Most households producing organic pepper achieve yields of 3-4 tons of pepper per year.

Mr. Nguyen Cao Nguyen, Deputy Director of Hoang Nguyen Cooperative, shared: “To produce organic pepper, farmers must strictly adhere to the production process. At the same time, farmers reap deserved rewards, which means guaranteed crop yields and a commensurate selling price. In 2024, the price of organic pepper from the cooperative was about 25% higher, but at times it increased by 200% compared to conventionally produced pepper.”

Since 2012, the Cong Bang Thuan An Cooperative in Dak Mil district has guided farmers to exploit the advantages of the region's coffee production towards high quality.

To date, the cooperative has 120 members, jointly cultivating and caring for over 400 hectares of coffee that meets RA standards and international organic standards (FLO-Fair Trade). Their ground coffee product has achieved OCOP 4-star rating…

In 2021, the Provincial People's Committee recognized Dak Mil's high-tech coffee production area, covering a total of 335 hectares in Thuan An commune. This coffee growing area is also cultivated by members of the Thuan An Fair Trade Cooperative.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Tri, a member of the Cong Bang Thuan An Cooperative in Dak Mil district, shared: “Previously, when I used chemical fertilizers and pesticides to care for my coffee plants, I felt very toxic and didn't want to work in the garden. Since participating in green agriculture with the cooperative, every time I go to the fields to work, I feel refreshed and comfortable. I see the value of the coffee increasing, always selling at a higher price than conventional products. This is the joy of farmers when practicing ethical agriculture.”

"

Over the years, the Dak Nong Cooperative Alliance has guided cooperatives to organize production towards green and clean agriculture, thereby increasing the value of products. Green agriculture creates a different and superior living, working, and consumption environment compared to the past.

Many agricultural products from the province have been recognized by international and domestic certification organizations as meeting standards such as GlobalGAP, Organic, RA, 4C, VietGAP, etc., covering an area of approximately 35,174 hectares. This includes 28,923 hectares of coffee; 3,154 hectares of pepper; 500 hectares of cashew nuts; 1,567 hectares of fruit trees; and 1,030 hectares of food crops.

Dak Nong has over 1,293 hectares of organic agricultural production, with an estimated output of 2,588 tons. This includes 1,683 tons of industrial crops, 653 tons of fruit trees, and 252 tons of food crops.

Mr. Ngo Xuan Dong, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Dak Nong, said: "Agriculture is identified as the pillar in the economic development of Dak Nong. Dak Nong is orienting its agricultural development towards green agriculture."

Mr. Dong shared that over the years, the province has implemented tasks and solutions for developing green agriculture. In particular, the province has issued mechanisms and policies for developing green agriculture.

The province supports individuals and organizations in obtaining certification for production according to quality standards; and provides preferential policies and investment support for the application of high-tech agriculture.

Dak Nong is developing solutions and addressing difficulties to promote green agriculture and boost the agricultural economy.

According to Lê Trọng Yên, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Đắk Nông province, in addition to implementing the central government's policies on agricultural development and green agriculture, the province should research and develop its own specific policies.

To develop green agriculture, Dak Nong must have unique characteristics compared to other regions. We must change people's knowledge about agricultural economics in Dak Nong. Cooperatives and companies/businesses must act as "pillars" supporting farmers.

Developing green agriculture and a green economy is an inevitable trend and a mandatory requirement in commodity production, export goods, and international integration in the coming period.

At the COP26 conference (December 2021), Vietnam made a strong commitment to bringing net emissions to "zero" by 2050; and reducing global methane emissions by 2030 compared to 2010.

Along with the rest of the country, Dak Nong has been realizing the development of green agriculture, contributing to the implementation of the strategy of exploiting Vietnam's potential and strengths in agricultural production, affirming the economic value of agriculture.
