Dak Nong proposes more than 2,100 billion VND for irrigation to fight drought

Dak Nong proposed that the Central Government invest more than 2,100 billion VND in building irrigation works to combat drought in the coming years.

On the afternoon of April 16, the working delegation of the Department of Irrigation Works Management and Construction (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment) led by Deputy Director of the Department of Irrigation Nguyen Hong Khanh had a working session with the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Dak Nong province.

The working delegation focused on grasping the work of preventing and combating drought and water shortage in the dry season of 2025 in Dak Nong and coordinating the implementation of the Project to assess the impact of drought in the Central Highlands.

Mr. Vo Van Minh, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Dak Nong province reported on contents related to drought prevention and water shortage in the dry season of 2025.

Dak Nong currently has 310 irrigation works. Of these, 256 are reservoirs, 33 dams, 8 drainage canal systems, 11 are pumping station systems, and 2 are other irrigation works.

The total capacity of 256 reservoirs is 182 million m3 of water. Up to now, 18 reservoirs managed and exploited by Dak Nong Irrigation Works Exploitation Company Limited have exhausted their water resources. About 3,304 hectares of crops have been affected by drought...

Mr. Nguyen Thua Anh, Director of Dak Nong Irrigation Works Exploitation Company Limited, reported on solutions and difficulties in drought prevention work.

In the dry season of 2025, Dak Nong will deploy many solutions to minimize the damage caused by drought such as: regulating and supplementing water sources; installing field pumps; pumping to take advantage of dead water levels in reservoirs...

Currently, irrigation works in Dak Nong only ensure irrigation water for about 27% of agricultural land area, the rest depends on other sources.

Almost every year, areas such as Dak Mil, Cu Jut, Krong No... experience drought and water shortages for production and people's daily life.

The representative of the Working Group discussed with the locality the need to advise people in production areas at risk of drought.

To proactively combat drought, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Dak Nong proposed that the Central Government invest in upgrading and repairing 37 irrigation works to provide irrigation water for about 8,200 hectares of crops.

Of which, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Dak Nong proposed to build 57 new irrigation works to serve about 12,700 hectares of crops, with a total cost of about 2,137 billion VND.

Mr. Nguyen Hong Khanh, Deputy Director of the Department of Irrigation, highly appreciated Dak Nong's drought response solutions.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Hong Khanh, Deputy Director of the Department of Irrigation, assessed that Dak Nong has proactively developed plans and solutions to respond to drought.

The Deputy Director of the Department of Irrigation suggested that the province should proactively grasp the situation to handle possible drought situations, because the rainy season is still long.
