Since the beginning of 2023, Dak Lak province has had 931 children with hand, foot and mouth disease, of which 2 children died.
On August 24, the Dak Lak Provincial Center for Disease Control (CDC) announced that the province had just recorded 1 death due to hand, foot and mouth disease. This is the second death since the beginning of 2023.
Accordingly, the deceased child was MMQ (2 years old, Tan Tien commune, Krong Pak district, Dak Lak province). According to family members, on August 16, Q. had a high fever of 39°. On August 20, Q. had many blisters on the palms of his hands and feet, and mouth ulcers; his family took him to the Krong Pak District Medical Center for treatment. However, due to the severe progression of the disease, on August 21, he was transferred to the Central Highlands General Hospital for further treatment. Here, doctors diagnosed Q. with: Grade IV respiratory failure, acute pulmonary edema, myocarditis, and sepsis. At 11 p.m. the same day, the child died.
It is known that before getting sick, the patient played with the same toys and had direct contact with a patient suspected of having hand, foot and mouth disease temporarily residing in Yang Kang commune, Krong Bong district, Dak Lak province.
According to CDC statistics, as of August 23, the whole province recorded 931 cases of hand, foot and mouth disease, including 2 deaths.
