Dak Lak province has over 600,000 hectares of agricultural land and over 700,000 hectares of forestry land, with a forest coverage of 38.04%. In recent years, Dak Lak agriculture has had positive changes, including the development of high-yield, good-quality commodity production, increased competitiveness, sustainability, and international economic integration. Agricultural and forestry economic models are playing a supporting role in renewing thinking, improving farmers' production skills, creating a foundation to promote sustainable agricultural, forestry and rural development, and adapting to climate change.
Dr. Vuong Huu Nhi - Chairman of the Union of Science and Technology Associations of Dak Lak province gave an opening speech.
Over the past years, Dak Lak has applied many important solutions to implement the Party's policies and the Government's direction on proactively responding to climate change, resource management, carbon credits and environmental protection... However, up to now, the results achieved are still very modest, most of the agricultural and forestry production areas have not been managed according to sustainable management standards; the area calculated for carbon credits has only been implemented at the initial stage, so there are still many limitations.
Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thien Van delivered the opening speech.
At the workshop, delegates said that proactively responding to climate change, strengthening management of the agriculture and forestry sector, and protecting the environment are issues of special importance, having a great influence, and deciding the sustainable development of the country.
At the same time, experts exchanged information on carbon credits, carbon certificate markets and current carbon credit market operations domestically and internationally. Developing carbon markets and mechanisms for managing, exchanging and offsetting carbon credits is an important solution to achieve the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions at reasonable costs, promoting the development and application of low-emission technologies, contributing to improving the competitiveness of businesses and the income of people participating in greenhouse gas emission reduction projects.

Dr. Vu Tan Phuong, Vietnam Forestry Science Institute shares about the potential of carbon trading in forestry
Speaking at the workshop, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thien Van said: Dak Lak has great potential for developing carbon credits, focusing mainly on carbon credits from forests and agriculture. Currently, Vietnam is in the process of establishing and organizing a pilot operation of a carbon credit exchange platform from 2025 with the expectation of officially operating the carbon credit trading system in 2028. Therefore, if the carbon credit market is implemented, this will be a significant source of profit from agriculture and forestry and contribute significantly to sustainable development, environmental protection and climate change response in the province.
Through the workshop, it is expected that there will be recommendations and solutions for Vietnam and Dak Lak in building a legal framework, operating a carbon trading floor, ensuring inclusiveness and fairness in the process of developing the carbon market; proposing cooperation mechanisms on carbon credits, promoting the development of pilot projects on carbon exchange for Dak Lak province...
