On the evening of August 22 at Thang Long Imperial Citadel, Hanoi , more than 1,000 guests attended the Taste of Australia BBQ Party.

The event was attended by Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong; Permanent Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Vu; Mr. Hoang Thanh Tung, Chairman of the National Assembly's Law Committee, Chairman of the Vietnam-Australia Friendship Parliamentarians' Group; the Australian Embassy in Vietnam; diplomatic corps, officials of the two countries, and many Vietnamese and Australian friends.
Speaking at the event, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong, who is visiting Vietnam, said: “Australians love Vietnamese food and this is a great opportunity to invite our friends in Vietnam to taste some of Australia’s signature dishes... The BBQ is also an opportunity to celebrate 50 years of relations between the two countries, which are underpinned by long-standing people-to-people ties, as well as trade, economic connections and cooperation in the field of peacekeeping.”
The menu for the show was selected by top Australian chef Luke Nguyen, who is also the Taste of Australia Ambassador.
Appreciating the importance of the program, Mr. Luke Nguyen said: “This is the biggest event held this year to celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations between Australia and Vietnam. This is also one of the biggest culinary festivals in Vietnam ever. I am very happy to be here to promote the excellence of Australian products.”

Opening the program, chef Luke Nguyen introduced Australian lamb grilled on a BBQ grill specially designed for this event.
In addition to the roast lamb, diners also enjoyed Australian salmon cooked on cedar planks, six-hour Australian beef ribs and kangaroo sausages; along with Australian wines, soft drinks and juices.
This program also introduces Australian packaged products currently available in Vietnam, along with a booth promoting Australian education.
During the evening program, guests enjoyed a performance by Australian indigenous artist, Thelma Plum, who came to Hanoi to promote Australian culture.

Taste of Australia is an annual event series hosted by the Australian Government in Vietnam, bringing together manufacturers, distributors, retailers, restaurants and organisations in Vietnam and Australia to showcase the best of Australian produce. This year, the event not only celebrates Australian food, drink and culture, but also marks the 50th anniversary of Vietnam-Australia diplomatic relations. |
