The Party's correct and creative policy

50 years ago, under the talented leadership of the Vietnam Workers' Party (now the Communist Party of Vietnam ), our entire people and army, with iron determination, intelligence, creativity, and steadfastness, achieved the great victory of Spring 1975, liberating the South and reunifying the country.

To continue affirming the historical value, glorious feats, and the stature of the times, and clarifying the lessons of the Great Victory of Spring 1975, in his opening speech at the conference, General Phan Van Giang, Politburo member, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, Minister of National Defense, stated: “Today's scientific conference is an important event in the series of activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 / April 30, 2025). The results of the conference will contribute to fostering patriotism, national pride and self-respect; strengthening the belief and political determination of the entire Party, people and army to successfully implement the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress; at the same time, fighting against wrong views that deny the nation's long-term resistance war and the great revolutionary cause of our people”.

General Phan Van Giang emphasized that: “We continue to affirm and deepen the stature and historical significance of the Great Victory of Spring 1975; draw on historical experiences and lessons to apply to the cause of building and firmly defending the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in the new era of development of the Vietnamese people for peace, independence, democracy, wealth, prosperity, civilization, happiness, and advancing towards socialism”.

Over time, the value of the Great Victory of Spring 1975 has been increasingly affirmed; becoming a symbol of the determination to fight, to win, the indomitable spirit and the aspiration for peace and independence of the entire Vietnamese people. In his opening speech at the conference, Comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia, Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission, suggested that the conference deepen the correct and wise policies and guidelines of the Party Central Committee, headed by President Ho Chi Minh; continue to affirm that the Great Victory of Spring 1975 was the result of Vietnam's strength in the Ho Chi Minh era; analyze the unique features of Vietnamese military art and thinking in the resistance war against the US to save the country. In particular, we need to draw the meaning and lessons from this important historical event for the new era of development of the Vietnamese nation.

Through more than 120 profound and scientific presentations, the Great Victory of Spring 1975 was recreated in a heroic way. In his speech sent to the conference, Senior Lieutenant General Le Huy Vinh, member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Minister of National Defense affirmed: “The Great Victory of Spring 1975 became a major milestone in the development process of the Vietnamese nation; it is one of the most outstanding successes in the art of war command of our Party. It is the art of creating opportunities, seizing the right opportunities, making timely and accurate strategic decisions, and directing strategies resolutely, flexibly and creatively. Thanks to that, we have won victories in decisive campaigns leading to the Ho Chi Minh Campaign, which was completely ours.”

From the perspective, the research results of many experts and scientists participating in the conference also affirmed: Adjusting the plan to liberate the South in 2 years (1975-1976) to April 1975 demonstrated the strategic vision of the Politburo, the Central Military Commission and the General Command in leadership, direction and the art of managing to end the revolutionary war. With that meaning, the Great Victory of Spring 1975 was the pinnacle of Vietnamese intelligence and bravery.

Resonant power and indomitable will

As a direct witness to the Ho Chi Minh Campaign, Major General Nguyen Ngoc Doanh, former Deputy Commander of Politics of the 4th Corps, shared: “In the Ho Chi Minh Campaign, the 4th Corps was assigned the task of planting the flag on the roof of the Independence Palace and taking charge of 3 attack directions in the East and Southwest of Saigon. With high determination, all the attack directions quickly captured the target according to plan. We successfully completed the mission of fighting to liberate Saigon exactly 50 years ago.”

The result of the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign was the combination of position and strength, of material and spiritual conditions and the close coordination between domestic and international forces. Referring to this issue, in the discussion of the group of authors Lieutenant Colonel, Master Vu Vinh Nghiem and Major, Master Le Minh Nam (Vietnam Institute of Strategy and History of National Defense) stated: “The resistance war against the US to save the country has won the material and spiritual support of the international community, creating the necessary and sufficient conditions for the Vietnamese people to fight and win. That is shown in the support and assistance of socialist countries; in the movement of progressive people in the US and the world opposing the war of aggression against Vietnam and in the solidarity alliance of the three Indochinese countries”.

Many direct presentations and those sent to the conference have deepened the lesson of promoting the combined strength that made the Great Victory of Spring 1975, clearly pointing out the strength from the political and spiritual factors, military culture, tradition of solidarity and aspiration for peace; at the same time emphasizing the comprehensive mobilization of the strength of all classes of people, all sectors, all components... to participate in the General Offensive and Uprising of Spring 1975 to achieve complete victory.

Applying creativity in the new era

The results of the Great Victory of Spring 1975 continued to affirm the issue of solidarity, relying on the people, taking the people as the root, being closely attached to the people, ensuring consensus to create strength. That was the core content of the speech of Lieutenant General, Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Vi Dan, Director of the Department of Science, Strategy and History of the Public Security, Ministry of Public Security. "When the Vietnamese people enter a new era, the lessons learned about people's hearts and building a "people's hearts position" from the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign have even more profound practical significance in the cause of building and defending the Vietnamese Fatherland today and tomorrow," Lieutenant General Tran Vi Dan further emphasized.

Also emphasizing the role and strength of solidarity, comrade Huynh Dam, former member of the Party Central Committee, former Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, confided: “The great victory in the Spring of 1975 originated from the wise leadership of the Party, the strength of the Army and the solidarity of the entire nation. The lesson of solidarity was vividly demonstrated in the resistance war against the US to save the country, which was the solidarity of the army and people, the solidarity of the entire nation, the solidarity of the North and the South and international solidarity in the spirit of promoting the role of the Fatherland Front. This is a profound lesson that needs to be applied and promoted in the new era of national development”.

From the theoretical and practical basis of conducting CTĐ and CTCT, in his speech sent to the conference, Senior Lieutenant General Trinh Van Quyet , Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Standing Member of the Central Military Commission, Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army emphasized: The victory of the General Offensive and Uprising in Spring 1975 marked a decisive turning point bringing the Vietnamese nation into the era of independence, unification and socialism, while leaving many valuable lessons. In the cause of building and defending the Fatherland, we need to pay special attention to the work of building a balanced and synchronized three-type armed force; Building a revolutionary, disciplined, elite, modern Vietnam People's Army with high overall quality and combat strength, first of all, must be strong in politics, ideology, organization, ethics and cadres, ensuring that the Army is truly a political force, an absolutely loyal and trustworthy fighting force of the Party, State and people, a core force in the task of protecting the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Fatherland...

Excited by the enthusiastic opinions at the workshop, General Luong Tam Quang, Politburo member, Secretary of the Central Public Security Party Committee, Minister of Public Security, delivered a concluding speech, highly appreciating the scientific content of the presentations. The Minister of Public Security affirmed: The workshop has clarified the role and value of new documents that need to be further synthesized and collected for research and application in practice. We need to continue to widely disseminate the content and results of today's workshop, contributing to historical education, arousing and promoting the patriotic tradition for cadres, soldiers, compatriots at home and overseas, especially the young generation to clearly and correctly understand the historical value of the Great Spring Victory 50 years ago.

Half a century has passed, but the heroic epic of the Great Victory of Spring 1975 still resonates with pride in the hearts of generations of Vietnamese people. That heroic epic has contributed to affirming the bravery, intelligence and aspiration for power of the Vietnamese people as they steadily move forward into the new era.
