Could you please share your expectations for the visit to Vietnam by Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira this time for bilateral relations? The visit to Vietnam by Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira this time is a very positive sign showing the development of diplomatic relations between Brazil and Vietnam over the past three decades, right on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Minister Vieira's visit has special significance for bilateral relations, reflecting the close friendship between Brazil and Vietnam based on active dialogue, transparency, mutual understanding and long-term cooperation. Last September, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh visited Brazil, followed by delegations from the government and the private sector. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's visit to Brazil is the first visit by an important Vietnamese leader in 15 years and is showing many "sweet fruits".

Minister Vieira's official visit is a continuation of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's visit and preparation for the upcoming official visit to Vietnam by President Lula da Silva, in response to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's invitation. During his visit to Vietnam, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mauro Vieira will, together with Vietnamese leaders, review bilateral cooperation in areas such as agriculture, trade, defense, energy transition, semiconductors and cultural exchanges. In addition, the two governments will review coordination in multilateral forums. On this occasion, Minister Mauro Vieira will chair the "Dialogue on Ethanol" Workshop sponsored by the Brazilian Government, the Brazilian Sugarcane Industry Association (UNICA) and Brazilian Sugarcane Bioenergy Solutions (APLA), which will take place on April 10 at the Melia Hotel. The workshop brings together experts and international organizations, focusing on the importance of ethanol as a clean, efficient energy source, contributing to reducing CO2 emissions. In addition, Brazil will share its successful experiences and leadership in the energy transition trajectory. Brazil is Vietnam's largest trading partner in Latin America. How does the Ambassador assess the potential for economic cooperation between the two sides in the coming time and the prospect of launching negotiations for a Vietnam-South American Common Market (Mercosur) FTA? Vietnam has proven to be a very resilient country when facing challenges caused by the post-Covid-19 pandemic crisis. Like most countries in the world, Vietnam is also affected by the international economic situation as well as trade and connectivity obstacles due to geopolitical restrictions. Even in the face of all these challenges, Vietnam has achieved economic growth of 5.1%, improved people's lives, pursued the goal of upper middle income, modernized infrastructure and become an important technology center in Asia. For its part, Brazil has also gradually overcome the difficulties caused by global instability. The Brazilian economy is growing, becoming a model for green energy development and an important source of food security in the world. Vietnam and Brazil are characterized by political stability, which are important factors in attracting foreign investment and promoting booming trade. There are many potential areas of cooperation such as technology and green agriculture. Both countries have many opportunities to promote cooperation, especially in new areas that will be of vital importance in the coming years. During Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s visit to Brazil, the prospects for relations between Mercosur and Vietnam were discussed and President Lula da Silva emphasized the idea of bringing Mercosur closer to Asian countries, where there is growing room for trade. Mercosur is a potential market with more than 300 million consumers and ASEAN is an even larger market with nearly 650 million potential consumers. This topic was discussed and the Brazilian government viewed Vietnam’s approach positively. As the G20 Chair in 2024, what are Brazil’s key priorities in supporting and promoting the role of developing economies? The Brazilian government highly values the special importance of the G20 as a forum for efforts to find solutions to the world’s needs and address the myriad challenges on the global agenda. The G20 plays an important and influential role due to its population size combined with the GDP of the countries involved. This year, Brazil's G20 Presidency has identified the following priorities: Social inclusion and the fight against poverty; energy transition and promoting sustainable development; institutional reform and global governance. Three main initiatives have been put forward, including: a Global Alliance to Fight Poverty; a global mobilization against climate change and, for the first time, a G20 summit open to all UN members, as a comprehensive and inclusive effort. The main idea of the G20 Summit will be to promote debates on global governance reform. The Vietnamese Minister of Agriculture is expected to participate in the G20 Agriculture Ministers' Meeting in September and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will also attend the G20 Summit in November. I hope that the G20 will be an excellent moment for Vietnam and Brazil to consolidate their positions on a range of issues that are important for the global future and, most importantly, for the well-being of people on Earth. I am sure that Vietnam's participation in the upcoming events will contribute positively to the dialogue on important issues on the global Southern agenda.
