This was the statement of US Ambassador to Vietnam Marc Knapper in a video shared by the US Embassy with the press at the end of 2023 and before the new year 2024. He also expressed his hope for a strong future in bilateral relations.

During the video, Ambassador Marc Knapper reviewed the historic milestone when Vietnam and the United States officially upgraded their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during President Joe Biden's visit to Vietnam in September 2023.

According to the Ambassador, the United States and Vietnam are cooperating more closely on emerging technologies. Together, we are creating the conditions for high-tech industries such as semiconductors to flourish.

In terms of education, Vietnam continues to be one of the leading countries in the number of international students studying in the United States with nearly 30,000 students. "We focus on STEM education, work to modernize Vietnam's higher education, support digital commerce and develop the workforce," the Ambassador said.

The two economies are more closely linked than ever, he said. Amkor Technology has opened a $1.6 billion computer chip assembly, testing and packaging facility. VinFast has signed a deal to build a $4.5 billion electric vehicle manufacturing facility in North Carolina.

“These are just two examples of how important bilateral trade is to the resilience of global supply chains,” said Ambassador Marc Knapper.

The 27th US-Vietnam Human Rights Dialogue took place in November 2023 in Washington, DC to discuss human rights and labor rights, implementing the commitments stated in the Joint Statement.

The United States has also been a partner in Vietnam’s environmental protection for the past 12 years, helping mobilize $1 billion in forest conservation resources. The United States has also supported Vietnam in vaccinating more than 352,000 health workers. The United States and Vietnam share a common vision for a free and open Indo-Pacific region.

In 2023, senior military officers and the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan visited Vietnam. The two countries also cooperate on humanitarian response initiatives such as the Pacific Partnership Program.

Ambassador Marc Knapper emphasized the United States’ commitment to addressing legacy issues of war. The United States and Vietnam updated their agreement on cooperation in dioxin remediation at Bien Hoa Airport, raising the total contribution to $300 million.

"The United States has also begun construction on a new embassy, which symbolizes our strong and enduring commitment to Vietnam," Mr. Knapper said.

At the end of the video, Ambassador Marc Knapper sent New Year greetings and expressed his hope for an increasingly strong Vietnam-US partnership.
