After Mitsubishi Vietnam set the launch date for the new generation of Triton on September 11, the current generation of this pickup truck model began to enter the "clearance" phase at dealers, with relatively attractive incentives. Referring to the transaction market, most showrooms only have the standard 4x2 AT version, priced at 650 million VND.
This variant is given 100% registration fee discount by the distributor in August, converted into a reduction of 39 million VND, in addition to 1 year of physical insurance and a rear camera. However, at many dealers, the actual selling price of Triton 4x2 AT is reduced by another 10-20 million VND, depending on the location, down to 591-601 million VND.
The standard Tritons "cleared from stock" at the dealer are all vehicles manufactured in 2023 (VIN 2023), so they are likely to lose value when resold, especially when the new generation is about to be launched (Photo: Mitsubishi dealer).
There are still some high-end Triton models in stock, these versions are not promoted by the company so the dealer has to launch their own program. For example, a showroom in Long An still has 1 white Athlete 4x4 AT (highest version), the car is discounted 55 million VND, down from 905 million VND to 850 million VND.
It can be seen that the actual selling price of the current Triton is quite attractive compared to the general level of competitors in the same segment, such as Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger, which have the highest prices of 999 million and 1.039 billion VND respectively. However, the reaction of users is still relatively "indifferent".
It is worth mentioning that the new generation of Mitsubishi Triton is still facing many mixed opinions. Many users commented that the design of this generation, although rugged, is not as eye-catching as the current Triton. The rear seats of the new generation do not recline as deeply as before, which is also a minus point in the eyes of some customers.
The 2024 Mitsubishi Triton is expected to have a completely new 2.4L engine when it arrives in Vietnam. This machine produces 204 horsepower and 470Nm, still slightly less than the Ford Ranger Wildtrak (207 horsepower and 500Nm) (Photo: Mitsubishi).
Mitsubishi Triton is facing competitive pressure from its rivals. Since the Toyota Hilux 2024 was brought to Vietnam in March (with additional versions and price adjustments), Triton has gradually been surpassed by its Japanese compatriots and is no longer the second best-selling product in the segment every month.
Although the Toyota Hilux has a higher price than the Mitsubishi Triton (VND 668-999 million), it has a competitive advantage in terms of brand and more outstanding equipment. On the highest-end Adventure version, the Hilux has a safety technology package that can compete with the Ford Ranger.
If it continues to maintain its "form", Toyota Hilux has a chance to surpass Mitsubishi Triton, as the sales gap since the beginning of 2024 is not too much (Photo: Nguyen Lam).
Before the Hilux was discontinued in 2022, Toyota's model was often in second place in the segment. In 2021, the Ford Ranger took the top spot with a total of 15,650 vehicles sold, the Toyota Hilux ranked second with 4,413 units sold, and the third place went to the Triton (3,683 vehicles).
