Prof. Dr. Nguyen Trung Viet will replace his predecessor, Prof. Dr. Trinh Minh Thu, who will retire from May 1.
Professor Nguyen Trung Viet, born in 1974, in Vinh Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district, Nghe An province. He is one of the leading experts in the field of hydraulic construction engineering in Vietnam.
In 1993, he was admitted to the University of Water Resources, majoring in Hydraulic Construction Engineering. During his studies, he achieved many outstanding achievements, including first prize in the 1996 Olympic Mechanics Competition for Strength of Materials and second prize in the 1997 Olympic Soil Mechanics Competition.

After graduating, he continued to complete his doctoral program at Tohoku University, Japan. He then returned to Vietnam and joined the teaching staff at Thuyloi University since 2007.
He was recognized as associate professor in 2011 and professor in 2018. During his career, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Trung Viet held many important positions such as Secretary of the Council of Professors of Irrigation and Member of the State Council of Professors.
In 2014, he was invited by the Japan Foundation for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) to conduct research and collaborate at the University and was appointed as a member of the Executive Board of the International Association for Hydrological and Environmental Engineering Research in the Asia-Pacific Region (IAHR-APD), and a member of the Executive Board of the Asia-Pacific Association for Marine Engineering (APAC).
In particular, in 2022, Professor Nguyen Trung Viet was awarded the Outstanding International Cooperation Award by the Japan Society of Civil Engineers (JSCE). This is a major award given to researchers in Japan and the world who have made great contributions to the construction field in general.
Currently, in addition to Mr. Nguyen Trung Viet as Principal, the Board of Directors of Thuyloi University has 2 Vice Principals: Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Canh Thai and Associate Professor, Dr. Do Van Quang. The Chairman of the University Council is Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Huu Hue.
