On June 1, Times Higher Education (THE) magazine announced the ranking results of THE Impact Rankings 2023, accordingly, Hanoi National University increased its ranking compared to 2022.
In 2023, overall, Hanoi National University will be in the 401-600 group in the world, with a strong breakthrough in the ranking of Quality Education, ranking 70th in the world (5th in Southeast Asia and 1st in Vietnam).

In recent years, the number of higher education institutions in Vietnam appearing in the THE Impact Ranking has increased with 9 educational institutions ranked in 2023 compared to 7 educational institutions ranked in 2022, 4 educational institutions ranked in 2021 and only 2 educational institutions ranked in 2020. Specifically: Hanoi National University (position 401-600), Duy Tan University (position 401-600), Ton Duc Thang University (position 601-800), Hanoi University of Science and Technology (position 601-800), National Economics University (position 601-800), FPT University (position 601-800), Phenikaa University (position 801-1000) and 2 universities participating in the ranking for the first time. The rankings are Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics (position 301-400) and Ho Chi Minh City Open University (position 1001+).

THE Impact Rankings aim to measure the success of higher education institutions in implementing the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations (effective since 2016), a call for global action with the goal of building peaceful, equitable and prosperous societies. This ranking assesses the influence and contribution of educational institutions to social development, human development, and environmental protection. In the 2023 ranking, THE Impact Rankings continues to attract the attention of 1,591 higher education institutions worldwide (an increase of 185 higher education institutions compared to the previous ranking).
In Southeast Asia, Thailand has 65 higher education institutions in the ranking, with Chulalongkorn University ranking highest at 17th place. Malaysia has 24 higher education institutions, with Universiti Sains Malaysia ranking 4th. Indonesia has 32 higher education institutions, the Philippines has 29 higher education institutions, and Cambodia has 1 higher education institution in the ranking.
