According to traditional customs, Bunpimay is one of the most important holidays of the year for Lao people, taking place from April 14 to 16 every year with the wish for a happy new year, full of joy, luck and peace.
Lao students at Ha Long University reviewed the history of the traditional Bunpimay New Year; performed cultural performances imbued with national identity; and performed traditional rituals such as: Wrist-tying ceremony, Thanksgiving ceremony and New Year party.
Since the beginning of April, Lao students at Ha Long University have visited Ha Long Bay, Quang Ninh Museum, Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, etc., along with many cultural and sports exchange activities between Vietnamese students and Lao students to celebrate the traditional Bunpimay New Year.
The activities to celebrate the traditional Bunpimay New Year for Lao students organized annually by Ha Long University not only enhance the exchange and connection between Lao students and students of Ha Long University, but also contribute to consolidating the good friendship between the two peoples of Vietnam and Laos in general, and between Quang Ninh province and the three northern provinces of Laos in particular.
From 2012 to present, Ha Long University has received and trained about 700 Lao students studying Vietnamese and some university majors such as Tourism , Pedagogy, Aquaculture... Many Lao students have graduated and returned home, actively contributing to the development of their homeland.
