According to the Circular amending the Regulations on university and college admission issued by the Ministry of Education and Training , there is an important new point that training institutions must convert the equivalent admission scores between the methods and admission combinations for a training major. This regulation aims to ensure fairness and transparency for all candidates.

Establish a team of experts, analyze real data

Sharing about the preparation of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Head of Admissions and Career Guidance Department (Hanoi University of Science and Technology), Associate Professor Vu Duy Hai said: As soon as the Ministryof Education and Training announced the draft of the University Admission Regulations for 2025, Hanoi University of Science and Technology planned to analyze the scientific basis and develop a solution to convert scores. The most important goal is to ensure the highest fairness for all candidates applying for admission to Hanoi University of Science and Technology.

Specifically, Hanoi University of Science and Technology has established a team of experts to research, analyze and synthesize data to find a conversion method that ensures the best interests of candidates. Currently, Hanoi University of Science and Technology has completed the conversion method and calculated illustrations for the data of 2024.

Accordingly, with the three admission methods that Hanoi University of Science and Technology has announced, including: Talent selection; selection based on Thinking Assessment (TSA) test scores and selection based on high school graduation exam scores, the school will choose one method as the base method. The scores of the remaining two methods will be calculated and converted to the same scale as the base method, in order to create consistency and fairness in the selection process.

Hanoi University of Science and Technology organizes the first round of the 2025 Thinking Assessment exam.

This method is similar to the current practice of converting equivalent scores between English certificates. Normally, the IELTS certificate score will be used as the base and then all scores of other English certificates will be converted to the same IELTS score for easy comparison.

Hanoi University of Science and Technology has agreed to use high school graduation exam scores as the basis for converting admission scores. Accordingly, the scores of the remaining two methods, talent selection and thinking assessment, will be converted to the same scale as high school graduation exam scores.

This conversion method helps standardize admission data, ensures fairness and transparency between methods, and helps parents and candidates easily visualize, compare and orient their admission registration strategy in accordance with their individual abilities.

According to Associate Professor Vu Duy Hai, this is a difficult task. Hanoi University of Science and Technology has based on the scientific basis of analyzing the learning results of students who were admitted by three different methods, thereby finding the correlation between the learning results of students and the admission scores of students in previous years. At the same time, analyzing the score distribution of the Thinking Assessment test, the score distribution of the talent admission method and the score distribution of admission combinations based on high school graduation exam scores to find the appropriate correlation.

In particular, Hanoi University of Science and Technology will provide specific illustrative examples based on 2024 enrollment data, helping candidates easily visualize and determine their position in the score spectrum after conversion. From there, candidates can proactively calculate the equivalent score between admission methods, supporting the selection process and adjusting wishes effectively and reasonably.

Based on the results of the 2024 admission data analysis, Hanoi University of Science and Technology has built a full-range correlation table between admission methods. The results show that the weights converted from the Talent Admission and Thinking Assessment methods are currently higher than the high school graduation exam scores in the same capacity range. For example, in the range of 60 to 75 Talent Admission or Thinking Assessment scores, the weights of the conversion function will be calculated to be equivalent to 25 to 28 high school graduation exam points.

Candidates' interests come first

In response to the concerns of some candidates with this way of converting scores, will the admission score increase? Answering this question, Head of Admissions and Career Guidance Department (Hanoi University of Science and Technology), Associate Professor Vu Duy Hai, said: With this year's score conversion method, candidates, especially those with many starting scores or many combinations of scores for admission based on high school graduation exam scores, can be completely assured. After having the conversion formula, the system will determine the highest score of each candidate to use for admission for each wish. This work will be automatically calculated by the system. This is the job of the admission system, not the candidate.

Candidates' rights in the 2025 admission season are still absolutely guaranteed.

Candidates' rights in the 2025 admission season are still absolutely guaranteed. Each candidate can have many types of scores according to different admission methods or many exam subject combinations, the system will automatically calculate, convert and select the candidate's highest starting score for admission with each candidate's registered wishes.

"Teachers and admissions and career guidance consultants all understand the concerns of parents and candidates about any changes in the admissions process. However, parents and students can be completely assured, because the 2025 University Admissions Regulations require schools to strengthen technical work and digital transformation to minimize errors and unnecessary mistakes of candidates when registering. The changes this year do not put pressure on candidates, but on the contrary, help the admissions system become safer, more transparent and more convenient, ensuring that all candidates are considered for admission based on the best scores they have," Associate Professor Vu Duy Hai affirmed.
