Set up 36 microphones to record the flag-raising ceremony.
Among the sounds recorded on the Hanoi Sound CD, the most special is probably the recording recreating the atmosphere of the flag-raising ceremony at 6am in Ba Dinh Square, on side B. Sound engineer Nguyen Duy Nghia - who directly participated in the recording and mastering techniques of the CD - said this was a new idea, because no unit had done it before. "The most difficult thing was to record at a real scene with a very strict environment in terms of security control. We had to simulate the correct position and movement of the sound at the scene. In addition, the square has a very large area, to recreate the solemn and sacred atmosphere of the flag-raising ceremony with sound is not easy," he said. Duy Nghia had to use up to 36 microphones placed around Ba Dinh Square and needed 16 technicians to be in charge of those 36 microphones. "We recreated the atmosphere of the flag-raising ceremony, from the sound of the honor guard marching to the sound of the flag flying, to the solemn, sacred atmosphere during the flag-raising moment," he recalled. Nguyen Duy Nghia is from the South and has never had the opportunity to attend the flag-raising ceremony. This was also the first time he attended and heard the National Anthem at Ba Dinh Square. "It was the best National Anthem I have ever heard, I tried to put it on the Thanh Am Ha Noi LP," the engineer said.General Director of Hanoi Radio Nguyen Kim Khiem - Photo: Hanoi Radio
Save Hanoi Sound in a very Hanoi way
Hanoi Radio General Director Nguyen Kim Khiem shared that "the Hanoi Sound CD records the sounds that have become part of Hanoi's memories over the past 70 years". The vinyl record has 2 sides. Side A is the songs that "cannot be missed when talking about Hanoi". That is Tien ve Ha Noi, a song written before October 10, 1954, showing the genius prediction of musician Van Cao, which later became a proud part of Hanoians. That is also Nguoi Ha Noi by musician Nguyen Dinh Thi, which carries the most Hanoian values and style; the symphony Ky uoc tuoi tho by Nguyen Huu Tuan is associated with Hanoi's difficult but very innocent years. There is also Ha Noi, faith and hope by musician Phan Nhan, a classic song that Hanoians sing loudly in times of hardship. On side B, in addition to the flag-raising ceremony recording, there is also the Capital Air Defense Alert (which sounded during the 12 days and nights when Hanoi fought off American planes), Hanoi Tram Sound, Hanoi Radio Theme Song from 1979, Hanoi Radio Theme Song from 2024... Mr. Khiem said the disc was made in 6 months, recorded with investment and care with the highest possible artistic quality. "Through this product, we hope to reminisce with those who love Hanoi and preserve the sounds of Hanoi for a longer time, in a very Hanoi way," he said of the reason for the release of the vinyl record and its name. In terms of release form, the vinyl record was once a part of the cultural life of the capital. The vinyl record also stored the first songs of Vietnam's revolutionary music. "At the present time when digital music and digital media are on the rise, vinyl records still hold a rather solemn position in the hearts of music lovers," the station representative added.Tuoitre.vn
