Representatives of Abyei government and people: Vietnamese soldiers are part of the local community

On December 16, at the UNISFA Mission Highway base, the Vietnamese peacekeeping force held a ceremony to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army, the 35th anniversary of the National Defense Day and lit a traditional campfire.

Speaking at the ceremony, Colonel Mac Duc Trong, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Peacekeeping Department, Head of the Ministry of National Defense Delegation visiting and working at the UNISFA Mission, said: Under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the Vietnam People's Army has continuously developed, becoming the invincible army of the heroic nation. With honor and pride, the Vietnamese blue beret soldiers will continue to inherit and promote the tradition and qualities of Uncle Ho's soldiers, achieving many new feats and achievements, fulfilling the mission of "messenger of peace" that the United Nations and peace-loving people around the world trust.

On behalf of the UNISFA Mission Commander, Brigadier General Ameer Muhammad Umrani, Deputy Commander of the Mission's Military Force, acknowledged and highly appreciated the contributions of the Vietnamese peacekeeping force in building world peace, always dedicated, devoted, demonstrating professionalism and a high sense of responsibility in their work. In addition, the Vietnamese peacekeeping force also actively carried out mass mobilization work, supporting the Abyei community with practical actions. These activities increasingly enhance the prestige of the United Nations peacekeeping force, thereby contributing to fulfilling the commitment to the United Nations peacekeeping mission for the Abyei community.

Representing the government and people of Abyei region, Mr. Chol Deng Alak, Chief of Administration of the region, shared: “For us, the Vietnamese soldiers here not only represent the United Nations peacekeeping force but they have become a part of the local community, they are the driving force of bravery, strength of solidarity and compassion”.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Pham Van Hao, Commander of the Vietnamese peacekeeping force in the Abyei region, Captain of the 3rd Engineer Corps, the achievements that the Vietnamese Engineer Corps has achieved demonstrate the value of collective strength, the strength of discipline and solidarity, the strength of will and courage, and the responsibility and prestige of Vietnam towards the international community. Thereby demonstrating the capabilities, professional expertise and mechanization of the Vietnamese Engineer Corps, contributing to further embellishing the glorious and heroic tradition of "paving the way to victory" of the heroic Vietnamese Engineer Corps.

Parish Priest in Abyei: We are lucky to have Vietnamese people around us

Previously, on December 14-15, the Vietnam Engineering Team No. 3 participating in the United Nations peacekeeping operations in the Abyei region organized charity and community support activities to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army and the 35th anniversary of National Defense Day.

The unit organized forces and vehicles to build a football field, level the road to the Hospital Without Borders, the road to the Parish and Abyei Hospital, transported 20 trucks of soil and leveled the foundation of the Abyei Radio Station. On the occasion of leading a technical support delegation to Abyei, Colonel Mac Duc Trong, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Peacekeeping Department (formerly Captain of the Engineering Team No. 1) and members of the delegation visited and presented gifts to students at the Abyei Church.

Sharing at the gift-giving ceremony, Father Bino expressed: “We are very happy and lucky to always have Vietnamese friends by our side. They always help people. They have helped us with things like providing clean water, leveling roads, building classrooms… in many different ways. We have learned a lot from the Vietnamese people, thank you for everything…”

According to Lieutenant Colonel Le Hong Giang, Political Commissar of the 3rd Engineer Team, the Party Committee and the Team Command always identify mass mobilization work as an important task in performing the function of the "Working Army". Therefore, in recent times, the 3rd Engineer Team has always closely coordinated with the Mission's agencies and local authorities to develop plans and deploy mass mobilization activities suitable for each target group and each specific time to ensure that mass mobilization work is most effective, while strongly spreading the image of Uncle Ho's soldiers to international friends and local authorities and people.

Notably, the 3rd Engineer Corps has been a unit that has regularly and actively coordinated with the Mission’s agencies and the Abyei regional government, along with the countries sending troops to firmly grasp the political security situation, social order and safety, contributing to improving the lives of local people and building a safe area. The results achieved have contributed to further enhancing the tradition of “Opening the way to victory” of the heroic Vietnamese Engineer Corps.
