Attending the opening ceremony were Politburo member, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen; Party Central Committee member, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai; Party Central Committee member, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh; Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi City Party Committee Nguyen Van Phong; and representatives of Central Committees, Ministries, and branches, Hanoi City and Ho Chi Minh City.
In her opening speech, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Vu Thu Ha said that the program "Hanoi Days in Ho Chi Minh City" is an opportunity for the two cities to review the heroic history of the nation, meet, share, promote, advertise, and introduce the unique cultural features, potentials and people of each locality to the public and tourists. At the same time, it deepens the close and lasting relationship between the two localities, tightens the comprehensive cooperation relationship in all fields, contributes to maximizing the effectiveness of the potential and strengths of the two cities, affirms the solid role of the two economic "locomotives", and unites to create a combined strength to develop together, making an important contribution to the development of the country.
“The program 'Hanoi Days in Ho Chi Minh City' is a meaningful activity to kick off a series of high-profile activities to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2024), and at the same time, it is a practical activity towards the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025). With that meaning, I declare the opening of the program "Hanoi Days in Ho Chi Minh City", Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Vu Thu Ha emphasized.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Permanent Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Duong Ngoc Hai was moved to say that during the years of resistance, the people and soldiers of the North devoted their efforts to the beloved South; and during the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, the whole country, especially the capital Hanoi, turned to Ho Chi Minh City with noble gestures, contributing to helping the City overcome the Covid-19 pandemic, gradually restore the economy, and return to a vibrant life... Those are the feelings that Ho Chi Minh City deeply engraves in its heart about beloved Hanoi.
"It can be affirmed that the achievements of Hanoi Capital in the past 70 years (after the Liberation Day of the Capital) and of Ho Chi Minh City in the past nearly 50 years (after the National Reunification Day) are very important, worthy of the central, core, and leading role of the two dynamic development regions of the whole country, contributing to the victory of the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress; Resolution No. 15-NQ/TW dated May 5, 2022 on "Orientations and tasks for the development of Hanoi City to 2030, with a vision to 2045"; Resolution No. 31-NQ/TW dated December 31, 2022 on "Orientations and tasks for the development of Ho Chi Minh City to 2030, with a vision to 2045" of the Politburo.

"Further promoting the tradition of solidarity, close affection and cooperative relationship between the Party Committee, Government and People of the two cities with special roles and positions in the country, the two cities have organized many conferences and joint working programs to exchange, share and learn experiences on good and creative ways of doing things, new, difficult and complicated issues, contributing to promoting cooperation in sustainable socio-economic development. Many positive changes have been achieved, with the National Assembly's approval of the Law on the Capital (amended) and the issuance of Resolution No. 98/2023/QH15 on piloting a number of specific policies and mechanisms for the development of Ho Chi Minh City being typical examples," said Mr. Duong Ngoc Hai.
Immediately after the speeches of the leaders of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, the opening ceremony with the Hanoi flagpole symbol was lit up, officially starting "Hanoi Days in Ho Chi Minh City".
The opening ceremony took place with a jubilant art program including special singing and dancing performances on stage inspired by the Hanoi Flag Tower - a special historical relic, one of the symbols of the Capital. In addition, the multifaceted beauty of Hanoi's land and people was also shown through the stage recreated with emotional "Pho Phai" paintings.

At the Opening Ceremony, a documentary film introducing the role, position and promoting the culture and tourism of the Capital was screened, providing an in-depth look at the tradition and development of Hanoi. The cultural space of the Capital was also evoked through the symbol of the traditional market, recreated through booths displaying handicraft products, traditional cuisine and attractive cultural exchange activities.
The program "Hanoi Days in Ho Chi Minh City" is organized by the Hanoi Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee in coordination with the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee from August 23 to 25, 2024 on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2024). Through practical and meaningful activities, the Program propagates the great significance of the Capital Liberation Day, the achievements of 70 years of construction and development of the Capital in the process of building and defending the Fatherland. At the same time, promote and introduce the cultural characteristics, unique typical cultural heritage of the thousand-year-old capital Hanoi; the elegant and civilized people of the Capital; Hanoi - City for Peace, Creative City. The program is also an activity to strengthen the cooperative relationship between Hanoi Capital and Ho Chi Minh City in promoting and exploiting the potential and advantages of culture, cultural heritage, tourism; economy, services, trade... to create conditions for businesses and attract people of the Capital to Ho Chi Minh City and vice versa.
