Da Nang launches anti-racing campaign after Vietnam-Thailand final

(NLDO) – Director of Da Nang City Police Department requested to investigate responsibility if racing occurs after the Vietnam – Thailand final.

On January 2, Major General Vu Xuan Vien, Director of Da Nang City Police, issued an official dispatch requesting to strengthen security, order, and traffic safety before, during, and after the 2024 Asean Cup football finals.

According to the document, at 8:00 p.m. on January 2 and 5 (Thursday and Sunday), the final football matches of the 2024 ASEAN Cup between the Vietnam and Thailand teams will take place. It is predicted that after the matches, especially in the case of the Vietnam team's victory, fans will organize parades to celebrate the victory, gathering at some key traffic routes, in the city center such as at the intersection west of Dragon Bridge, route 2/9 and the area around the 2/9 monument, Bach Dang, Dien Bien Phu, Nguyen Van Linh, Nguyen Huu Tho, Nguyen Tat Thanh...

Some young people take advantage of cheering and victory celebration activities to organize illegal racing, weaving, swinging, revving, etc., causing insecurity and disorder, disturbing public order...

To ensure security and order, the City Police Director requested that units proactively develop plans to ensure security and order before, during and after the final matches, and report to the City Police Director (through the Staff Department) before 2:00 p.m. on January 2.

The Director of Da Nang City Police will hold local leaders accountable if serious traffic accidents or racing occur.

In particular, 100% of the forces of Traffic Police, Mobile Police, Criminal Police, Drug Police, Criminal Enforcement Police - Judicial Support will be on duty; 50% of the forces of police in districts, wards and communes will be on duty from 7:00 p.m. on the days of the final match.

The Director of Da Nang City Police also requested to grasp the related situation, especially on cyberspace, to mobilize all forces to increase patrols, promptly prevent and strictly handle illegal racing and public disorder....

"The head of any unit or locality that allows illegal racing, very serious or extremely serious traffic accidents, or prolonged traffic congestion to occur must be responsible to the Director of the City Police Department," the document clearly stated.
