Recently, the Da Nang Tourism Promotion Center, the Da Nang Tourism Association and Furama Resort Da Nang announced a series of culinary events "Vietnamese Culinary Journey" to promote Vietnamese cuisine to domestic and international tourists. This is the opening event for a series of activities in 2024 to implement the Plan to develop cuisine into a unique tourism product in Da Nang city in the period of 2023-2030. This event takes place throughout the year at Furama Resort Da Nang.
Accordingly, once a quarter at Furama Resort Danang, 4 top Vietnamese chefs participate in the demonstration of preparing Danang specialties and a culinary party to serve guests. The event series includes 4 themes associated with 4 seasons, including Spring: Vietnamese Origin - Vietnamese Heritage Artisans; Summer: "Da" Sea Scent - "Vietnamese" Flavor; Autumn - Phu Sa Echo and Winter: "Vietnamese Tet, Furama Tet". The highlight of the program is the "quintessence reunion" night with the participation of 12 Vietnamese culinary artists who set an Asian record.
Mr. Nguyen Duc Quynh - General Director of Furama Resort Danang, Vice Chairman of Danang Tourism Association said that tourists do not simply eat but also listen and feel the culture and history of Vietnamese cuisine: "Tourists not only enjoy food but also feel the food through culinary culture, helping us introduce sustainable tourism. This is one of the programs that Danang tourism industry has determined to implement in 2024 to introduce Vietnamese culinary culture to the world".
Da Nang City has successfully organized many large culinary tourism events such as the Da Nang International Food Festival in 2019; Da Nang Food Festival is part of the annual Summer Enjoyment Festival; "Standard Quang Noodles" contest. Most recently, the Quang Da Tet Culinary Culture Festival, introducing local specialties.
Mr. Le Tan - a researcher on Vietnamese culinary culture, believes that each locality has its own specialties, which are not mixed with other places, and tourists can only enjoy them when they set foot in that land. Therefore, organizing a series of consecutive events will contribute to honoring the traditional values of cuisine. According to researcher Le Tan, the participation of professional and famous domestic chefs will transform and create Vietnamese dishes to suit the taste of domestic and foreign tourists, bringing Vietnamese culinary culture further into the international arena, becoming a national brand.
“Foreign visitors coming here must enjoy Vietnamese specialties, but if they come here and only eat European, Asian, American dishes, etc., it is not appropriate. These culinary events are to introduce tourists to the value of Vietnamese indigenous cuisine. Researchers say that Vietnam has up to 3,000 dishes, so at least, we can introduce about 8 to 16 dishes each year,” said Mr. Le Tan.
In mid-2023, Da Nang City issued a Plan to Develop Cuisine into a Unique Tourism Product in Da Nang City for the period 2023-2030. The purpose is to exploit and develop cuisine, create new products and unique attractions for destinations, stimulate customer spending and attract tourist markets. Accordingly, businesses, restaurants, hotels, associations and unions exploit unique culinary tourism programs in Da Nang. Da Nang Department of Tourism surveys, classifies, builds a map of Da Nang cuisine and organizes communication.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoai An - Deputy Director of the Department of Tourism of Da Nang City said that the industry encourages culinary establishments to decorate, create photo spots to take souvenir photos and build stories about dishes, and demonstrate food preparation for guests to experience: "In 2024, we will launch a digital map of Vietnamese cuisine in English to serve international tourists, make videos introducing cuisine and a tourism stimulus program with the theme of enjoying cuisine. The city will organize an international Vietnamese cuisine festival, and work with culinary associations to organize programs related to cuisine."
