This account wrote: "I would like to share some pictures of my child's meal! He is currently studying at PD School - Hai Chau District - Da Nang City. I have been monitoring my child's meals at school. At mealtimes, I really want to go in and see how the children are eating, but at that time parents are not allowed to enter and exit freely, the gate is strictly controlled...".

Attached to the post is a picture of what is said to be a school lunch that many parents consider "meager", asking "where is the meat?".

Parents complain about meager boarding meals in Da Nang, what do the principal and district leaders say?

On the same morning, Mr. Truong Thanh Dung - Vice Chairman of Hai Chau District People's Committee, along with leaders of the Department of Education, went to Phu Dong Primary School for inspection.

Mr. Dung said that recently there has been some information reflecting on the boarding meals. In addition to surprise inspections, the district always responds promptly when there is information online. He affirmed that the quality of the meals still meets the standards according to the menu, the dishes are cooked deliciously and deliciously by the wardens.

"However, sometimes the managers do not serve the food evenly, and students eat their favorite food first, so the images may not fully reflect the situation. Parents rushing to post incomplete images online can easily cause misunderstandings that the school is dishonest. The district has not yet found any schools with poor quality meals," he said.

The principal of Phu Dong Primary School, Ms. Truong Thi Nha Truc, said she was not sure if the photo in the post was taken at her school because many places use the same trays and tablecloths.

Comparing the menus of the months, she confirmed that the okra stuffed with shrimp, potato and carrot soup with ground beef, and banana dessert were on the same menu for one day in October 2024. Other dishes in the photo also had the same menu but could not be determined to be from the school.

According to Ms. Truc, the daily boarding meal fee is 31,000 VND, including 3,000 VND for extra fees (gas, electricity, water, toilet paper, etc.), the remaining 28,000 VND for the main meal and snack. The school divides it into 22,000 VND for the main meal and 6,000 VND for the snack. The dishes are balanced within this price range.

Talking about the meal that was criticized as "poor", Ms. Truc explained: "The beef is ground, measured as 10 ounces divided into 10 servings, the scooping out may not be even, some students have more, some have less. Students may have eaten before taking the picture. Fruits like half a banana, a piece of watermelon... are the right portion. With 22,000 VND, it is very difficult to have enough rice, soup, main dish, side dish and fruit, so teachers have to balance carefully."

The principal also confirmed that the school always welcomes parents to supervise meals, they just need to inform the homeroom teacher so that the school can arrange someone to take them to the classroom. "The security guards cannot let strangers in or let too many parents in because it will affect food hygiene and safety," she said.
