DNO - On the evening of June 27, the Department of Science and Technology (KH&CN) coordinated with the People's Committee of Lien Chieu District to organize a ceremony to announce the decision, receive the certificate of protection of the geographical indication "Nam O" for the fish sauce product of Da Nang city and celebrate the 5th anniversary of the Nam O fish sauce making profession being recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage. Speaking at the event, Vice Chairwoman of the City People's Committee Nguyen Thi Anh Thi said that the "Nam O" geographical indication for fish sauce products is one of three geographical indications for fish sauce products nationwide, including: Phu Quoc fish sauce, Phan Thiet fish sauce and Nam O fish sauce.
This is an important legal basis for Nam O traditional fish sauce production and trading establishments to enhance their reputation, develop the market, protect the value of product quality and origin, enhance competitiveness, and create conditions for traditional fish sauce products to be widely consumed in the domestic and export markets.
Vice Chairwoman of the City People's Committee Nguyen Thi Anh Thi suggested that the People's Committee of Lien Chieu District should deploy and use the geographical indication "Nam O" effectively; organize the granting of the right to use the geographical indication "Nam O" to members of the craft village association to develop products.
At the same time, promote and introduce products with geographical indication “Nam Ô” for fish sauce products in many forms on media channels; develop distribution network associated with quality control and traceability. Research and propose solutions to develop Nam Ô fish sauce products in key export markets.
The Department of Science and Technology coordinates and guides the People's Committee of Lien Chieu district to issue documents on the management of the geographical indication "Nam O" for fish sauce products; supports the identification of organizations and individuals participating in the use and granting the right to use geographical indications to members of the craft village association; organizes training courses to raise awareness and capacity for subjects on geographical indications, management of origin and quality of products protected by geographical indications according to the value chain.
Enterprises, production facilities, and members of craft village associations need to enhance their sense of responsibility, fulfill their commitments to ensure product quality and meet standards to maintain the reputation and unique quality of the product, and work together to build, develop, and protect the Nam O fish sauce brand.

According to the Department of Science and Technology, after nearly 2 years of implementation, the geographical indication “Nam O” for fish sauce products of Da Nang city has been granted a protection certificate by the Department of Intellectual Property under Decision No. 437/QD-SHTT dated June 3, 2024 of the Department of Intellectual Property. This is the first geographical indication for a product of Da Nang city.
The Department of Science and Technology will continue to support the People's Committee of Lien Chieu district in implementing a number of contents to develop the "Nam O" geographical indication such as: establishing a model for management, use and development of products protected by geographical indications according to the value chain associated with traceability and product quality management operated in practice; registering the right to use the "Nam O" geographical indication for production organizations and individuals; guiding the operation of the model for management, use and development of geographical indications of fish sauce products according to the value chain; improving quality, diversifying products...
