Da Nang urgently evacuates people from flooded areas due to heavy rain

On the morning of October 14, heavy rain continued to fall in Da Nang City, causing flooding on many roads and low-lying areas in most districts.

Although there have been no human casualties, the floods have caused local traffic congestion, damaged many means of transport, damaged buildings and people's property, and affected economic and social activities.

During the night of October 13 and early morning of October 14, many areas in Da Nang City were flooded 30-60cm deep, some places were flooded deeper.

According to Mr. Nguyen Ha Bac, Secretary of Lien Chieu District Party Committee, there are many deeply flooded areas in the district, especially 11 locations flooded from one meter or more (in Hoa Minh and Hoa Khanh Bac wards).

Authorities have urgently deployed to evacuate 1,870 people in low-lying areas to safety.

In particular, at alley K317 Au Co street (Hoa Khanh Bac ward), the water was more than 80cm deep and flowing rapidly. The ward's shock team focused on helping people move safely to neighboring households and raise their property.

Chairman of Hoa Vang District People's Committee Phan Van Ton said that in the district, there are some areas with localized flooding, causing difficulties for people to move around.

Previously, the district evacuated and relocated people in low-lying areas such as Ta Lang and Gian Bi villages (Hoa Bac commune), So mountain area (Hoa Son commune)...

Currently, no villages or hamlets have been isolated or cut off from traffic due to flooding. District authorities are implementing traffic control measures and guiding people to move safely through areas of localized flooding.

During the night of October 13 and early morning of October 14, police and military forces were mobilized to support people and minimize damage caused by flooding. The city's Military Command mobilized 433 officers and soldiers to be on duty and support people in key flood-affected areas.

The city police mobilized 100% of its personnel to be on duty and deploy rescue operations. The Mobile Police Battalion with more than 200 officers and soldiers helped people evacuate and move their belongings in the area of ​​Me Suot and Hoang Van Thai streets (Lien Chieu district).

Fire prevention and rescue police forces organized rescue and support for people in deeply flooded areas, concentrated in Lien Chieu district. Traffic police organized traffic flow and guidance on flooded roads, landslide areas on Hai Van pass...

According to the report at 6:00 a.m. on October 14 of the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Search and Rescue and Civil Defense of Da Nang City, the entire city has evacuated 2,316 people due to flooding; of which 194 people were evacuated centrally and 2,122 people were evacuated on-site. Heavy rains have flooded 9.5 hectares of vegetables in the city...

It is forecasted that from October 14-16, the city will continue to experience heavy rain, very heavy rain and thunderstorms, requiring precautions against lightning and strong gusts of wind. Total rainfall will range from 200 to 400mm, with some places reaching over 500mm.

In the next 3-6 hours, flooding is likely to occur on many roads and low-lying areas in most districts. The maximum flooding depth is from 30-60cm, some places are deeper, warning level of natural disaster risk due to flooding: level 1, 2.
