Da Nang adjusts naming new wards and communes using place names

On the morning of April 22, the Executive Committee of the Da Nang City Party Committee unanimously approved Resolution No. 26-NQ/TU on adjusting the names of commune-level administrative units formed after the arrangement in Resolution No. 25-NQ/TU (issued on April 15, 2025).

Instead of the previous naming method of combining district names with serial numbers such as “Hoa Vang Ward 1”, “Thanh Khe Ward 2”, etc., Da Nang will return to using traditional place names such as An Hai, Thac Gian, Hai Van, Son Tra, Ba Na, etc., names that have left a deep impression on the hearts of the city’s people and carry many historical and cultural values.

This is also part of the urban development orientation towards deep identity, strengthening community cohesion and arousing aspirations for local development.

Da Nang issues Resolution to adjust naming of new communes and wards after rearrangement.

The resolution stipulates that renaming wards and communes must ensure priority criteria regarding history, culture, economy , development potential, and national defense and security. Accordingly, localities with one of the prominent components will keep their original names, while in the case of merging localities of equal importance, a reasonable and harmonious name combination option will be chosen.

The Da Nang City Party Committee assigned the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee to direct the City People's Committee to collect public opinions before submitting to the City People's Council on April 24. The complete dossier will be sent to the Government before May 1 to ensure progress.

This change is not only an administrative adjustment but also a cultural and social step, showing respect for local history and identity. It is expected that, after completion, Da Nang people will be able to live in wards and communes with more familiar and meaningful names, such as Hai Van ward or Ba Na commune, names that have become symbols of the city on the Han River.
