DNO - On April 2, at the summit of 5 localities of 3 countries on the East-West Economic Corridor connection of Vietnam - Laos - Thailand with the theme "Promoting trade, investment, tourism, connectivity and integration" organized by Sekong province (Laos), Chairman of the City People's Committee Le Trung Chinh proposed many key solutions to promote socio-economic development on the East-West Economic Corridor 2 route.

Speaking at the conference, Chairman of the City People's Committee Le Trung Chinh assessed that in recent times, the exploitation of the potential and advantages of each locality on EWEC 2 has been increasingly effective, contributing to socio-economic development, connecting world cultural heritages, facilitating access to resources, land, and human resources of localities; facilitating trade, passenger and cargo transport across borders of countries on the corridor and trade to the outside; promoting the development of transnational tourism; economic linkage to enhance competitiveness and promote development.
However, there are still many limitations, the transport infrastructure is not yet synchronous, many points have degraded; trade and goods exchange between localities is not vibrant; tourism has not yet flourished; road transport costs are still high; administrative procedures between countries are not unified and cumbersome; the coordination mechanism between localities along the entire route still has shortcomings.
In order to maximize the effectiveness of the role of EWEC 2 in the coming time, the Chairman of the City People's Committee proposed a number of key solutions. Accordingly, localities along the corridor need to focus on completing road traffic infrastructure, especially National Highway 14D, and research and propose to governments of countries to reach a consensus on applying administrative procedures, customs, fees, charges at border gates... to save costs and time for transporting goods, facilitating road tourism on the route.
"Da Nang will strive to call for investment, link to build modern logistics infrastructure to reduce costs, improve the competitiveness of goods on the EWEC route, and at the same time strengthen activities to promote the development of the logistics sector, connect investment to the provinces of South Central Laos; expand the scope of attracting goods for the Central Highlands market and EWEC 2. Da Nang will research and build an information network system (database) to provide logistics services for businesses in the city and localities on the EWEC to support businesses in looking up administrative procedures, tax rates, import-export procedures... related to each item", said the Chairman of the City People's Committee.
At the same time, Lao localities are requested to study and propose attractive incentive mechanisms and policies to attract Vietnamese enterprises to invest in various fields. Lao enterprises need to increase the exchange of goods, supply of raw materials and agricultural products to Vietnam. It is recommended to strengthen the organization of linkage activities, cooperation in promoting investment, trade and tourism between Da Nang and Ubon Ratchathani province in the coming time.
According to Chairman of the City People's Committee Le Trung Chinh, in order to promote cross-border tourism development and strengthen the connection of tourist destinations of localities on the route, local travel businesses need to proactively coordinate to promote destinations and build tourist routes, especially in the fields of eco-tourism, resorts, culture, history and community tourism because the Southern Laos region plays a role in connecting the key tourist areas of Thua Thien Hue - Da Nang - Quang Nam provinces with the northeastern region of Thailand through Ubon Ratchathani province, which has great potential to develop these types of tourism.
Regularly organize trade promotion activities, connecting trade between localities on the route. "Da Nang will continue to actively coordinate with Quang Nam to organize trade and investment promotion and connection delegations in the provinces of South Central Laos and Ubon Rachathani province of Thailand to maintain and create more stable and sustainable goods from markets through Da Nang seaport", the Chairman of the City People's Committee emphasized.
