Currently, every day Lam Dong General Hospital receives and treats about 5 patients with dengue fever who are living in Da Lat and did not move to another area before the disease broke out.
This surprised the doctors here because Da Lat had no dengue fever cases before. If there were any, they were infections from places outside Da Lat.
According to information from Lam Dong General Hospital, in the past 2 years, there have been cases of dengue fever in people living in Da Lat, who had not traveled to other areas before showing symptoms.
However, the number is insignificant, not creating a situation that can be considered an epidemic. This year, the number of people with dengue fever in Da Lat increased.
Mr. Nguyen Duc Thuan, Director of the Lam Dong Provincial Department of Health, said that the peak of dengue fever in Da Lat has passed. At its peak, medical facilities in Da Lat treated about 15 dengue fever patients living in the area every day. Currently, the number of patients being treated and new cases has decreased.
As of October 1, Da Lat had 71 cases of dengue fever (while Bao Loc City (Lam Dong) had more than 2,000 cases and the whole province had about 5,900 cases).
Mr. Thuan emphasized that the dengue fever outbreak in Da Lat is an epidemiological record. The number of dengue fever patients in Da Lat is too small compared to other provinces and cities.
"The problem is not serious and does not have a negative impact on tourism and people's activities. However, people need to have different activities first and follow the recommendations of health agencies to avoid infection," said Mr. Thuan.
Climate change changes Dalat
Explaining the reason why there was no dengue fever in Da Lat before, Mr. Nguyen Duc Thuan, Director of Lam Dong Province Department of Health, said that dengue fever is caused by the Dengue virus. And female mosquitoes of the genus Aedes are the intermediary transmitting the virus that causes the disease.
"In the past, Da Lat was colder and more humid than it is now, so the activity of the above-mentioned mosquitoes was limited, and their ability to spread disease was poor or impossible.
However, in recent years, Da Lat's temperature has increased and become more extreme. Inadvertently, this change has caused disease vectors to develop," Mr. Thuan explained.
