Quincy Promes has 50 caps for the Netherlands

The former Ajax player and his accomplices were said to have intended to smuggle two bags of drugs weighing a total of 1,300kg into the Netherlands. However, the authorities discovered and seized them at the port of Antwerp (Belgium).

It is known that the total value of these banned substances is up to 75 million euros and is expected to be consumed on the streets of Amsterdam.

Promes is currently playing for Spartak Moscow in the Russian Premier League and has no intention of returning to the Netherlands.

Therefore, it is likely that the Dutch court will have to hold a trial in absentia for the player born in 1992.

Meanwhile, Promes' lawyer, Mr. Robert Malewicz, is still keeping silent and refusing to comment on this case.

In July 2020, a player from Spartak Moscow was arrested by police for using a knife to attack a family member, causing a knee injury.

After an investigation, prosecutors recommended that Promes be sentenced to two years in prison. The court will make a final decision on the case on June 5.

Currently, the 31-year-old striker still has a contract until June 2024 with Spartak Moscow.

Promes has played 50 times for the Netherlands national team, scoring 7 goals and playing for many big teams such as Ajax, Twente and Sevilla.
