Former General Prabowo Subianto (73 years old) was sworn in today, October 20, at the Indonesian Parliament to officially succeed leader Joko Widodo as president, according to AFP.
"I pledge to fulfill my duties as President of the Republic of Indonesia in the best and fairest way possible, upholding the constitution and implementing all laws and regulations as strictly as possible," Mr. Prabowo declared.

In a speech to lawmakers later, Mr Prabowo declared: "We will lead the Indonesian government... by prioritizing the interests of all Indonesians, including those who did not vote for us." He spoke of presiding over a "peaceful democracy", adhering to a "good neighbor" policy and admitting there was still too much corruption "at every level", before ending his speech with a cry of "freedom!".
Tens of thousands of people lined the streets of Jakarta as Mr Prabowo became Indonesia's eighth leader since the country gained independence from the Netherlands in 1945.
Mr Prabowo has pledged to pursue Indonesia's non-aligned foreign policy, but has signaled that he will be more assertive on the world stage.
Mr Prabowo made his first foreign visit to China since his election eight months ago, before embarking on a tour of more than 10 other countries including Russia, Saudi Arabia and Australia, where he signed a major security agreement.
Indonesia is Southeast Asia's largest economy and has the world's largest nickel reserves, with a population of 280 million, according to AFP.
