On July 2, Military Hospital 175 announced that it had issued a red alert to successfully save the life of a female patient in critical condition after breast augmentation surgery.

The patient is Ms. NTHY (30 years old), hospitalized in critical respiratory failure, specialists had to coordinate the red alert between hospitals, perform ECMO technique (artificial heart-lung technique) to save her life.

Previously, on June 15, Korea Star Cosmetic Hospital (HCMC) performed breast augmentation surgery on a patient; after surgery, the patient had the endotracheal tube removed according to procedure.

However, the patient later showed signs of respiratory failure and had to be re-intubated and put on a ventilator. Consultation with experts noted that the patient had acute negative pressure pulmonary edema, a very rare condition that causes myocardial shock syndrome.

Immediately, Korea Star Cosmetic Hospital - Sao Han sent an inter-hospital alarm signal to Military Hospital 175. 30 minutes later, the extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) technical team arrived at this cosmetic hospital.

Doctors at Military Hospital 175 approached the patient in a deep coma, blood pressure being maintained with two very high doses of vasopressors, respiratory failure with optimal mechanical ventilation...

Assessing the patient's condition as too serious, the patient was immediately transferred to Military Hospital 175, then the patient was placed on ECMO in critical condition.

After 6 days of treatment, the patient's cardiovascular function and organ dysfunction improved, ECMO was stopped and post-resuscitation care continued.

The patient fully recovered and was discharged on July 1 after 18 days of treatment.

Colonel, MD CKII Vu Dinh An - head of the intensive care department, Military Hospital 175 - said that the inter-hospital red alert is a form of emergency treatment for critical, life-threatening cases beyond the treatment capacity of the current facility.

The red alert process helps bring benefits in terms of human resources, expertise, and the best equipment to effectively intervene for patients.

Korea Star Hospital - Korean Stars temporarily suspended

As Tuoi Tre Online reported earlier, on June 19, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health said it had requested Korea Star - Sao Han Cosmetic Surgery Hospital (address 781/C9 Le Hong Phong, Ward 12, District 10) to immediately suspend all surgical and procedural activities.

According to the Department of Health, on June 17 and 18, the unit was informed of two serious medical incidents after cosmetic surgery at Korea Star Hospital.

Patient NTHY (30 years old) had breast implant surgery with endotracheal anesthesia on June 15.

After surgery and after removing the endotracheal tube, the patient's condition worsened and he was transferred to Military Hospital 175 for continued treatment.

The second case is a female patient CT (31 years old) who underwent breast augmentation and arm liposuction surgery under endotracheal anesthesia at Korea Star Hospital on June 14. One day after surgery, the patient developed respiratory failure and fever.

The patient was transferred to Cho Ray Hospital for further resuscitation with a diagnosis of respiratory failure, pneumonia, post-operative liposuction of both arms, and bilateral breast augmentation.
