A fisherman suffered an accident that severed his leg and left him in a coma at sea 65 nautical miles from Da Nang. He was rescued by the SAR 274 rescue ship and taken to a hospital in Da Nang for treatment in the early morning of February 12.

According to information from the Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center (Vietnam MRCC), at 6:00 p.m. on February 11, the captain of fishing boat QNg 94397 TS made an emergency call to the center to inform that fisherman Nguyen Binh Tai (59 years old) had a work accident. The victim was in critical condition when his right foot was severed, leading to blood loss and coma.
At this time, fishing boat QNg 94397 TS was operating in the sea area about 65 nautical miles north-east of Son Tra cape, Da Nang. The boat did not have enough equipment and medicine to rescue the fishermen in distress, so the captain requested Vietnam MRCC to deploy emergency rescue work.
Immediately after receiving the news, Vietnam MRCC requested the Coastal Information Station to connect so that medical staff could provide initial first aid instructions to the injured fishermen via the radio communication system.
At the same time, the emergency ship was requested to head towards Da Nang to save time when the rescue team moved to the location of the ship in distress.
Assessing the urgent emergency situation, potentially endangering the victim's life, the National Committee for Incident, Disaster Response and Search and Rescue, the Ministry of Transport, and the Vietnam Maritime Administration directed Vietnam MRCC to immediately mobilize the specialized search and rescue ship SAR 274 from its permanent position in Da Nang to go to the rescue.
Also on board SAR 274 were two doctors from the 115 Emergency Center in Da Nang.

During the night, the SAR 274 maintained maximum speed despite adverse weather conditions and large waves due to the northeast monsoon. At 11:15 p.m. on February 11, the ship approached the fishing boat.
Rescue workers from SAR 274 and medical staff from the 115 Center in Da Nang boarded the fishing boat to provide first aid to the victim, then transferred him to SAR 274 to take him back to Da Nang for treatment.
At 3am on February 12, SAR 274 brought fisherman Nguyen Binh Tai safely to Vietnam MRCC wharf. Mr. Tai was transferred to the hospital for further treatment, his life is no longer in danger.
