Former US soldier detonates Cybertruck to 'warn America' about 'collapse'

(CLO) On January 1, a Tesla Cybertruck explosion outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas killed former special forces soldier Matthew Livelsberger and injured seven others.

According to police, this is considered a suicide with the motive of drawing attention to political and social issues.

Suspect Livelsberger left two letters in the Notes app on his phone, describing his actions as a "show" to wake up America.

In the first letter, he wrote: "Comrades, veterans and all Americans, IT'S TIME TO WAKE UP! We are being led by weak and selfish people who only care about enriching themselves."

In the second letter, Livelsberger emphasized: "We are the United States of America, the greatest nation that has ever existed! But now, we are in decline and heading towards collapse."

He also affirmed that this was not an act of terrorism but "a wake-up call", because according to him, the American people only pay attention to sensational and violent events.

Livelsberger also mentioned personal difficulties, including bearing the psychological burden of fallen comrades and military decisions: "I needed to free my mind from the pain of loss and the torment of the lives I took."

According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Livelsberger, 37, a former US Army officer, is believed to have suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Livelsberger had recently had family problems, including his wife leaving him just days before the explosion, after suspecting he was having an affair.

The FBI said there was no evidence that Livelsberger was affiliated with any terrorist organization. He had no criminal record and was not on any security agency watch list.

The Cybertruck explosion came just hours after a car crash in New Orleans that killed 14 people. However, the FBI said there was no evidence linking the two incidents, although both suspects shared some common traits, including serving in the military and renting vehicles from the same service.

The Tesla Cybertruck Livelsberger was driving was a rental, and the weapons seized at the scene were all legally purchased by him at a store in Colorado, according to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

Speaking at a press conference, Deputy Police Chief Dori Koren said the FBI is analyzing documents and information to better understand Livelsberger's psychology and motives. The full letter will be released to help the public better understand the circumstances that led to the incident.

Although the incident occurred in front of the Trump hotel and involved a Tesla vehicle, the FBI stressed that there was no information to confirm that this was an act with any specific political or ideological purpose.
