On November 5, the People's Committee of Mai Hoa commune (Tuyen Hoa, Quang Binh) said that a man had just been swept away by floodwaters and went missing.

Accordingly, at around 4:30 p.m. the same day, a 5th grade student at Xuan Mai Primary School (Mai Hoa Commune) was swept away by the water while crossing a flooded area in Bac Hoa Village.

Upon discovering the incident, Mr. Cao Van C. (born in 1971, residing in Bac Hoa village) jumped into the water and saved the child. However, Mr. C. was later swept away by the water and disappeared.

Upon receiving the news, the authorities went to the scene to search but have not yet found the body.

Over the past two days, heavy rains in Quang Binh province have caused rivers and streams in mountainous districts to rise, flooding many roads, tunnels, and bridges.

In Tuyen Hoa district, some areas were flooded from 0.5 to 1 meter deep. Roads leading to some villages and inter-commune roads in Lam Hoa, Mai Hoa, Ngu Hoa, Thach Hoa, Dong Hoa communes were also heavily flooded, traffic was partially cut off. 89 households with 373 people in these localities were temporarily isolated.

Heavy rain also caused landslides in Thuan Tien village, Thuan Hoa commune. Local authorities mobilized the evacuation of 11 households with 41 people in the landslide risk area.

Landslides at Phong Khong hill area, Duc Hoa commune threaten many households below. Local authorities have mobilized 66 households with 213 people to evacuate to safety.

In Minh Hoa district, authorities coordinated to notify and organize the emergency evacuation of 38 households with more than 140 people from Cay Suong hill area in residential group 8, Quy Dat town, to prevent the risk of landslides.

The Cay Suong hill area has a very steep terrain, complex geology, the height from the natural ground of the houses to the top of the hill is about 65 - 70m. In recent years, this area has begun to show cracks and subsidence.

Previously, on September 24, the People's Committee of Quang Binh province announced an emergency situation regarding landslides in this area.
