Over the past 5 years, the emulation movement "Exemplary Veterans" has been launched and widely implemented by the Veterans Association at all levels in Thuan Chau district, attracting a large number of cadres and members to participate.
Mr. Do Danh Tuyen, Chairman of the Association of War Veterans in Thuan Chau district, said: The Association of War Veterans in the district has 30 grassroots organizations, 313 branches, and a total of 5,087 members. Implementing the motto of orienting activities towards the grassroots, the Association at all levels has promoted propaganda and mobilized members to uphold the spirit of solidarity, dare to think, dare to do, self-reliance, overcome difficulties, build a strong organization, support and create conditions for members to develop the economy and improve their lives.
Standing out in the emulation movement of “Exemplary Veterans” is the movement of war veterans helping each other reduce poverty and do good business. Up to now, the association at all levels has received the trust from the District Social Policy Bank Transaction Office of over 190 billion VND for more than 1,700 war veteran households to borrow capital to invest in production development, build economic models, and establish cooperatives owned by war veterans. In addition, the association's bases have established an internal fund of hundreds of millions of VND for members to borrow at preferential interest rates.
Through the emulation movement, many members have actively researched and boldly invested in economic development, with many good models, creative ways of doing things, many valuable and prestigious products on the market, many economic models of war veterans have an income of 200-500 million VND/year, creating jobs for children of members and hundreds of local workers. In particular, in Phong Lai commune, there is a honey beekeeping model of member Nguyen Van Thanh; growing tea, coffee, fruit trees, and afforestation of member Thao Pha Sy; Pha Din tourism cooperative of member Bui Ngoc Thang. In Chieng Pha commune, there is a tea, coffee and livestock farm of member Nguyen Van Trong; service business of member Luong Van Lanh. Ca Vai agricultural cooperative of member Ca Van Cho, Muong E commune; growing coffee and black canarium of member Luong Van Than, Chieng Bom commune; The Association of War Veterans in Tong Lanh commune has member Lo Trung Phong, who is in the business of purchasing and processing medicinal herbs; the dragon fruit growing model for export of member Quang Van Hinh... Up to now, the entire association has only nearly 11% of poor households; in particular, there are branches with 100% of quite rich war veteran households, such as the Association of War Veterans in Na Lan village, Tong Lanh commune.
Visiting the dragon fruit export growing model, raising wild boars and earthworms of Mr. Quàng Văn Hinh, Head of the Association of War Veterans in Na Lan village, Tong Lanh commune. With more than 4 hectares of land, built in a closed model, using livestock waste and earthworms as fertilizer for dragon fruit, ensuring clean products and not polluting the environment. Mr. Quàng Văn Hinh shared: On average, each year, his family harvests about 150 tons of dragon fruit to supply to export enterprises. In addition, livestock waste, earthworm humus mixed with coffee husks, and probiotics serve dragon fruit production and are supplied to cooperatives growing organic fruit trees in and outside the district. The average annual income after deducting expenses reaches more than 500 million VND and creates jobs for more than 20 local workers, with an income of 250,000 VND/person/day.
Implementing the new rural construction program, over the past 5 years, the members of the War Veterans Association in the whole district have contributed more than 500 million VND, donated more than 3,600m2 of land, nearly 1,700 fruit trees and mobilized hundreds of working days of members to participate in the construction of traffic and irrigation works, building village cultural houses; mobilized hundreds of households to move livestock barns out of the floor, and participate in environmental sanitation. At the same time, the officers and members of the War Veterans Association actively participate in the movement "All people unite to build a cultural life in residential areas" with many diverse forms, every year over 96% of the families of War Veterans meet the standards of cultural families.
Responding to the call of the Vietnam Fatherland Front at all levels, promoting the spirit of solidarity, mutual love, and sharing difficulties, the association at all levels has mobilized members to respond to the campaign "Join hands to eliminate dilapidated houses for poor Veterans". Over the past 5 years, CCB officials and members have donated 560 million VND to help eliminate 18 dilapidated houses for poor members in especially difficult circumstances.
With the goal of no more poor war veteran households by 2030; every year, 80% or more of its members meet the "exemplary war veteran" standard, the War Veterans Association of Thuan Chau district focuses on promoting patriotic emulation movements, building and replicating effective economic models of war veterans, contributing to the local economic and social development.
