In today's digital world, uncertainty seems to have become a permanent state.
Invisible pressures make us easily feel lost, doubtful about ourselves and the future ahead. But we forget that even within each person there is a small, but powerful source of light to stand firm against the storm.
As one of the 100 must-read books of 2022 voted by Time magazine, The Light We Carry by Mrs. Michelle Obama is for those who are struggling at a crossroads in life, helping us look back at ourselves to change our lives for the better.
Life has very few fixed points.
The Light Within draws from Michelle Obama's experiences as a mother, wife, and former First Lady of the United States.
Looking back at the losses caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Michelle Obama said it could take a significant amount of time for life to return to normal after the pandemic, as the losses will have long-term effects and continue to impact people's lives for many years to come.
"We will feel uncertain and continue to be uncertain. The world will still be both beautiful and painful, and uncertainties will not disappear. But when we cannot achieve balance, we must face and adapt to ever-changing circumstances," Michelle shared.
In the pages of the book, Mrs. Michelle is not afraid to admit her weak moments, the times when she feels she is not good enough, not strong enough, and from there, she shows her true strength through daring to look straight at her own fears.
She shared the habits and principles that helped her adapt to change and overcome various obstacles.
"My life journey has taught me that life has very few fixed points, that the traditional milestones that we think of as starting and ending points are actually just a few fixed points on a much longer road than we think. Human beings are always shifting, always changing, always moving in the flow of life.
"It's not guaranteed that every effort will lead to a certain result, but every day that passes, we must become a newer version of ourselves," Michelle wrote.

Everyone carries light within them.
Michelle Obama’s latest book goes beyond personal stories to address deeper, global issues: race, gender, mental health, and the role of the individual in today’s society. She also encourages individuals to have the courage to live their truth and continue to develop their own inner light.
Michelle Obama believes that every human being carries within them a little light, something completely unique and individual, a source of strength that deserves to be protected.
“The moment we recognize our own light, we are strong enough to use it. When we learn to nurture the uniqueness of those around us, we can build compassionate communities and create meaningful change,” she writes.
The book opens up a frank and honest dialogue with readers, examining questions that many people are struggling to answer:
How do we build lasting, authentic relationships? How can we discover strength and community within our differences? What tools do we use to deal with feelings of self-doubt or powerlessness? What should we do when we start to feel overwhelmed?...
