Talking to Thuy Nga in the program Nha co khach , singer Phuong Giao said that when she was young, she was not passionate about singing because famous singer Hung Cuong once told his daughter "not to follow this career because it is very ungrateful". The female singer confided: "My father said that when you are at the top, the audience considers you an idol. But one day, if you decline, the audience will quickly forget you. Because they only pay attention to those who are at the top, not everyone but the majority. So my father said this career is very ungrateful, you should try to learn and not follow your father's career. But it seems like the Creator chose you, the career chose you, you cannot choose the career. I entered the singing career at the age of 17".
Thuy Nga was surprised when singer Phuong Giao revealed that she had just settled in the US for 20 months.
Artist Hung Cuong's daughter confided that she initially pursued this career because she wanted to improve her family's finances. However, over time, she gradually felt a deep passion for art. Phuong Giao believes that pursuing art is like "preparing the path for you, not choosing it". The female singer said that at first, she was only allowed to sing in a group, but fortunately, because of her beauty, she was chosen to be the program's presenter. Later, Phuong Giao left the group and switched to solo singing, starting to build her career.
During her nearly 50 years in the profession, Phuong Giao had a time when she temporarily put her career on hold to take care of her family. The female singer confided that after getting married, her husband's family did not want her to continue singing, but because she loved her husband, she had to accept. However, when her family faced difficulties, she had no other job besides singing, so she returned to art.
During her peak years, Phuong Giao said she used to perform at nearly 10 venues a night. The female singer said she was not picky, as long as there was a show and she could arrange her time, she would accept. She confided that at that time, she continuously performed shows to provide her family with a more comfortable life. The 6X singer said: "There was a night when I sat down to calculate, I sang up to 52 songs, both at dance halls and venues. I sang so much that my voice was as thick as a man's, I couldn't record in the morning but had to start at 12 o'clock or later. I was lucky to still have a normal voice, but now my voice is thicker than before."
The female singer confided about having had 3 serious accidents and thought she could no longer stand on stage.
3 times in an accident, the family went bankrupt
During her singing career, Phuong Giao revealed that she experienced many events, including three terrible accidents. She recalled: "That day I went to a show but went alone. I don't know why I had a premonition that something would happen, so I left earlier than usual. Even though I was walking very slowly, I collided with a drunk person. At that time, I was wearing leather shoes but 3 toes were severed, and my entire left foot was crushed. Luckily, I was wearing socks that day, so the severed part was inside the socks and did not fall onto the road. People around me rushed me to the emergency room. At that time, the doctor - Phuong Hong Que's husband - tried his best to reattach my 3 toes. For 3 months, I couldn't sing, and when I stayed home and listened to music shows, I cried. Now I can only move 2 toes, the tendons on the other toes are all severed. On 2 other occasions, I also had an accident and had to stay in the orthopedic trauma department. Luckily for me, I met a good doctor, he respected singers so he tried to make sure I was whole like I am now."
In addition to her career, Phuong Giao also shared about her married life with many ups and downs. The female singer said that she and her husband met and became husband and wife because of fate. Phuong Giao said that her husband used to be very rich, owning several hundred taels of gold. However, after 3 years of marriage, the family unfortunately went bankrupt. At that time, her husband also fell seriously ill, causing the family to fall into poverty.
Phuong Giao shared that she is lucky to have a happy married life and stable children.
"At that time, my family was in trouble, and my husband was sick, so I had to find a way to sing again. I accepted to start over because the audience no longer knew who I was. One day, I waited from the beginning to the end of the show but still couldn't sing. Luckily, the ancestors loved me, I gradually got to perform more and take care of my family. My husband also recovered from his illness and went back to work. I must have passed the difficult time, but to be honest, I don't know how I endured the period of sharing joys and sorrows," the female singer confided.
At the age of over 60, Phuong Giao decided to move to the US to live with her daughter. The singer revealed that she has been living here for about 20 months and has gradually integrated into life in the land of the stars and stripes. Occasionally, Phuong Giao sings to maintain the passion that has followed her for nearly 50 years.
