Few people know that Meritorious Artist Duc Khue is an amateur actor, without formal training. He once applied to be a security guard at the Youth Theater. Passionate about art since childhood, Meritorious Artist Duc Khue expressed his admiration for the famous artists of the theater at that time: Le Khanh, Anh Tu, Chi Trung, Minh Hang, Lan Huong...
Meritorious Artist Duc Khue auditioned for the 4th class of the Youth Theater in 1990. After 5 years, he graduated with honors with the role of Mr. Nhan in the play " The Wanderer is Not Lonely" by author Minh Chuyen.
It was also Duc Khue's first stage role. The 20-year-old man made an impression when playing the role of an old man over 60 years old.
After graduating, Meritorious Artist Duc Khue worked at the Youth Theater. Later, he took a directing course at the University of Theatre and Cinema.
Duc Khue shared that no one in his family is in the arts. The first time he spoke to his father about this turning point decision, the actor received advice to consider carefully because the artistic path is full of thorns and has no destination.
However, Duc Khue persevered with his passion, not knowing whether he would succeed or not. During his artistic career, Meritorious Artist Duc Khue admitted that he was not handsome and could not play the role of a prince or king. Because he did not have a strong physical appearance, he often emphasized his personality.
“I approach each character differently, imagining how to make it most harmonious,” he emphasized.
Meritorious Artist Duc Khue shared that he does not allow himself to be discouraged, always tries to be optimistic, recharges his energy to do his best work. On stage, he tells himself to control his emotions. An artist who transforms into a character brings emotions to the audience, if he wants them to laugh or cry, be happy or sad, he needs to control his emotions.
“I trained myself to get into the habit of putting everything aside when I go on stage and focusing on the role. At that time, there is no more ego, but living with the character,” the actor shared.
Looking back on the past, Meritorious Artist Duc Khue affirmed that he always feels happy with every step he takes. For him, success is a personal feeling, not measured by certificates or awards. “I am very simple, I live a gentle and sincere life,” he said.
