National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue affirmed that Vietnam attaches importance to and is determined to promote the Strategic Partnership with Malaysia to become increasingly deeper, more substantive and effective in all fields.
On the morning of July 21, at the National Assembly House, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue met with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
On behalf of the Vietnamese National Assembly, the National Assembly Chairman welcomed Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's official visit to Vietnam on the occasion of the two countries celebrating the 50th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations (1973-2023).
Pleased to welcome Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim at the Vietnamese National Assembly House, the National Assembly Chairman affirmed that Vietnam attaches importance to and is determined to promote the Strategic Partnership with Malaysia to become increasingly deeper, more substantial and effective in all fields, through the Party, Government, Parliament, people-to-people exchanges and at all levels, both central and local, including relations between local elected bodies; believing that the Prime Minister's visit will be a great success, an important milestone contributing to consolidating and strengthening the Strategic Partnership between the two countries.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim thanked National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue for his warm welcome and conveyed the regards of the President of the Senate and Speaker of the House of Representatives of Malaysia to the Speaker of the National Assembly.
Expressing his admiration for President Ho Chi Minh and the indomitable and resilient spirit of the Vietnamese people in the past struggle against foreign invaders, the Prime Minister shared his good feelings towards Vietnam from his student years and previous visits to Vietnam in different positions; affirming that Vietnam plays an important role for the Malaysian people and is Malaysia's only Strategic Partner in ASEAN.
At the meeting, the two leaders agreed to continue to facilitate each other's investment, business and trade; support the review and limitation of trade defense measures, and enhance cooperation to maintain and strengthen supply chains, especially in the context that countries are seeking to diversify their markets to adapt to the current international context.

The two sides emphasized the importance of increasing bilateral trade in a more balanced direction; coordinating to review, research and establish mechanisms to promote cooperation in fishing, processing and consumption of seafood because this is an area where both sides have demand and can complement each other; supporting cooperation and supporting businesses in Vietnam in the Halal food industry, where Malaysia has strengths and Vietnam has great potential.
Malaysian Prime Minister agreed to consider increasing imports of some Vietnamese goods.
The two leaders also discussed the importance of maritime and ocean cooperation; considered the establishment of a consultation mechanism on maritime issues and a hotline to combat illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing; and further promoted cooperation in education, aviation, science and technology, tourism and people-to-people exchanges.
National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim agreed to maintain ASEAN's common stance on the East Sea issue; continue to coordinate in the next phase of negotiations for the Code of Conduct (COC); and actively contribute to ensuring the building of a substantive, effective COC in accordance with international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue appreciated Malaysia's granting of a license to establish the "Malaysia-Vietnam Friendship Association" in 2022, hoping that the Malaysian Government will continue to pay attention to and create favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community in Malaysia.
Welcoming and appreciating Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's idea of proposing cooperation in developing tourism between the two countries in the spirit of "world family" and organizing cultural and artistic exchange activities to create close links between the people of the two countries, the National Assembly Chairman hoped that the two sides would promote negotiations to soon sign a new agreement on aviation cooperation to promote tourism development, cultural and people-to-people exchange between the two countries.
The National Assembly Chairman affirmed that the Vietnamese National Assembly and he himself will do his utmost to strengthen relations between the legislative bodies of the two countries both bilaterally and at AIPA, IPU, and international regional forums; and increase the exchange of delegations at all levels between the National Assemblies/Parliaments of the two countries.
Through the Prime Minister, the National Assembly Chairman respectfully invited the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the President of the Senate of Malaysia to soon pay an official visit to Vietnam and invited the Malaysian Parliament to send a delegation to attend and actively contribute to the IPU Global Young Parliamentarians' Conference hosted by the Vietnamese National Assembly next September.
At the meeting, the two leaders hoped that the legislative bodies of the two countries would strengthen cooperation and exchange operational experiences, especially in perfecting the development-creating institution.
Welcoming the Vietnamese National Assembly to host the 9th Global Young Parliamentarians’ Conference with the theme “The role of youth in promoting the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals through digital transformation and innovation” in September, the Malaysian Prime Minister highly appreciated the idea of organizing the conference when focusing on young people and young parliamentarians; at the same time, he agreed with the National Assembly Chairman that the two countries need to promote cooperation and exchange between universities, not only at the postgraduate level but also in research cooperation on the Halal food industry with higher standards./.
