Also during the time of storm No. 3, there were many fake news and false rumors. The fake news handling system of the Department of Radio, Television and Electronic Information received a lot of information about fake news and false news. Currently, 9 localities have also established fake news handling systems. In addition, the information portals of ministries, branches and localities have proactively provided information on storm and flood prevention and control, as well as refuted fake news, rumors and false news related to the sector and management field.
The Department of Radio, Television and Electronic Information has requested Facebook to remove 36 fake news and false information; TikTok has removed 51 false information. The fake news handling system has also received 45 reports and coordinated with relevant agencies to handle them; providing information to refute fake news, fabricated information and false information.
For example, a fake Fanpage of the Lam Thao District Fatherland Front Committee ( Phu Tho Province) appeared to scam by calling for donations and support for families affected by the Phong Chau Bridge collapse. Or, a Fanpage impersonating the Quang Ninh Red Cross Society scammed people by calling for donations to support people in storm-hit areas. In addition, many people used social networks to post false information about the storm and flood situation in localities...
Currently, the authorities have verified and clarified the impersonator; at the same time, promptly propagated and posted official information about the flood situation, instructions; posted warnings about fake content on the official Fanpage and the local Electronic Information Portal... Every time there are natural disasters, floods, and epidemics, many subjects take advantage to spread information, and people are easily moved and share this information.
The Deputy Director of the Department of Radio, Television and Electronic Information warned people to be extremely alert, verify information shared through official sources; verify from local authorities..., otherwise they will inadvertently become people spreading fake information, false information, participating in violations of the law.
