At the closing ceremony of the 23rd Vietnam Film Festival held in Da Lat recently, actress Bui Lan Huong surpassed two strong competitors, Hanh Thuy ( Glorious Ashes ) and Kim Oanh ( The Last Wife ) to win the Best Supporting Actress award for her role as Khanh Ly in the film Em va Trinh .

After the award ceremony, the news that Bui Lan Huong was originally registered by the production unit to compete in the category of Best Actress but won the award for Best Supporting Actress caused controversy.

On some film forums, this detail has attracted much attention from audiences. Some people believe that such a change makes the award unfair to other actors.

On the morning of November 27, sharing with Dan Tri reporter, Mr. Vi Kien Thanh - Director of the Department of Cinema (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) - said that the registration of films for the competition and registration of creative components to participate in individual awards is currently submitted by production units, without confirmation from the film director.

"The producer is not the one who directly builds and directs the entire film making process, so they cannot understand who is the main actor and who is the supporting actor. When judging, the jury found that Bui Lan Huong only deserved the Supporting Actress award, so they gave her this award," Mr. Thanh shared.

The Director of the Department of Cinema added that this unit will learn from experience for the next film festivals. The registration form must have the signature of confirmation from the film production unit and the director, to unify the film components.

Informing Dan Tri reporter, Phan Gia Nhat Linh - director of the film Em va Trinh - said that registering for the contest is the responsibility of the producer. However, sometimes the producer does not clearly understand the positions in the film crew, especially does not clearly understand the division of main and supporting actors, leading to the above situation.

According to Phan Gia Nhat Linh, in Em va Trinh , the main characters are Alvin Lu - Tran Luc (as Trinh Cong Son) and Akari Nakatani (as Michiko). The remaining actors are all supporting roles, including Hoang Ha (Dao Anh) and Bui Lan Huong (Khanh Ly).

"However, Bui Lan Huong's role was so outstanding that everyone paid attention to this character. The bigger problem of this incident is the inconsistency in concepts when registering information between the producer and the Organizing Committee of the awards.

I hope that when submitting the application form for film awards in Vietnam, please describe the nominations specifically instead of writing them in general terms, so that producers can register correctly. In addition, producers should consult with directors about nominations for main and supporting roles in the film," the male director shared.

Em va Trinh is a film directed by Phan Gia Nhat Linh, inspired by the life of the late musician Trinh Cong Son, from youth to middle age (from 1950-1990), made with a budget of 50 billion VND.

The film stars Avin Lu as a young Trinh Cong Son and Tran Luc as an old Trinh Cong Son. The film tells the story of the fateful encounter between Trinh Cong Son and Yoshii Michiko, which opens a journey back to youth, exploring the musician's love affair with his "muses".

In the film, Bui Lan Huong plays singer Khanh Ly.
