Gold shop in Quang Ngai fined over 235 million for buying and selling counterfeit goods

On October 14, the People's Committee of Quang Ngai province announced that Chairman of the People's Committee Nguyen Hoang Giang signed a decision to impose an administrative fine of VND 235 million on Hoa Tung gold shop (Tran Phu ward, Quang Ngai city).

The reason the store was fined was because it traded foreign currency at an organization that was not allowed to exchange foreign currency for purchases worth from 1,000 USD to less than 10,000 USD; and bought and sold counterfeit goods worth from 100 to 200 million VND.

Previously, the Department of Investigation Police on Crime, Economy, Smuggling, and Environment of Quang Ngai Province Police discovered that Hoa Tung Gold Private Enterprise had been buying and selling many types of foreign currencies such as US Dollars, Japanese Yen, Australian Dollars, Canadian Dollars... with a total value equivalent to more than 1,989 USD.

At the same time, it was discovered that this store displayed 6 gold-colored metal products engraved with the GUCCI brand name; 36 gold-colored products engraved with the CHANEL brand name but without invoices or documents proving their origin with a total value of more than 197 million VND.

After working and making a record of the gold shop's violations, Quang Ngai Provincial Police advised the Quang Ngai Provincial People's Committee to issue a decision to fine the two above violations: Buying and selling foreign currency for 30 million VND; and a fine of 205 million VND for the act of trading and displaying counterfeit goods.

In addition, in the penalty decision, the People's Committee of Quang Ngai province confiscated all foreign currency and gold-colored metal products engraved with the brand names GUCCI and CHANEL.

In the penalty decision, the People's Committee of Quang Ngai province requested the business owner to strictly comply with the above penalty decision. If the deadline expires and the business owner does not voluntarily comply, he/she will be forced to do so.

Hoa Tung Gold Shop Private Enterprise has the right to appeal or file an administrative lawsuit against the above decision.
