After the November 5 election, the United States began to undergo a transition process with notable developments from both parties.
Democratic voters support Ms. Harris' re-election
Despite losing to President-elect Trump in the 2024 White House race, Vice President Harris remains the Democrats' top choice to be their party's 2028 presidential nominee, according to a new poll.
A poll released by Puck News/Echelon Insights found that 41% of likely Democratic voters would vote for Ms. Harris, topping the list of 2028 Democratic candidates. California Governor Gavin Newsom was second with 8%, and Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro won 7%.

Both Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, who is running for president in 2020, received 6%.
On the other side, Vice President-elect JD Vance leads with 37% when Republicans are asked who they would pick in their party's 2028 primary. Former 2024 presidential candidates Nikki Haley and Vivek Ramaswamy both have 9%.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis got 8%, while Senators Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio, Trump's nominee for secretary of state, each got 5%.
The poll was conducted from November 14-18 among 1,010 likely voters. The margin of error is 3.5 percentage points.
Trump chooses new Attorney General
President-elect Trump has named former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi as his next nominee to lead the Department of Justice (DOJ).
The news came just hours after former Congressman Matt Gaetz withdrew as a candidate.

“For too long, the Department of Justice has been a partisan weapon against me and other Republicans. That will no longer be the case. Pam will focus DOJ on its original purpose of fighting crime and making America safe again,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
In his second pick for attorney general, Mr. Trump has again chosen someone who supported him during impeachment. Ms. Bondi was a senior adviser on Mr. Trump’s first impeachment defense team.
While in Florida, she challenged many Obama-era policies, including the Affordable Care Act. She also defended the state's ban on same-sex marriage.
News of Ms. Bondi's nomination received a positive response from many Republican voices in the Senate, compared with the stunned reaction to Mr. Gaetz's nomination.
