On May 23, Dr. Tran Nguyen Lam, head of the Nghia Loc commune health station in Nghia Dan district (Nghe An province), said that staff at his unit had successfully removed a leech from the penis of a 71-year-old man.

At noon on May 22nd, the commune's health station received Mr. NHT (71 years old), brought in by his family. According to Mr. T.'s statement, that morning he was soaking in a pond to catch snails and discovered a leech had crawled into his penis.
The elderly man went home and tried to remove the leech himself but failed. Therefore, his family took him to the health center. It took medical staff 20 minutes to successfully remove the leech from the man's penis. After a period of observation, the man was discharged to rest at home.
According to the head of the health station, he has encountered many cases of leeches entering the nose or vagina, but this is the first time a leech has entered the penis. The doctor advises people not to soak in water for long periods in ponds, lakes, rivers, and streams to avoid such rare and unfortunate incidents.
