In the development of medicine today, nurses are not only the ones who follow the doctor's orders, but they also directly care for and serve all the needs of patients, from professional techniques to mental care, understanding the patient's psychology... It can be said that the quality of a hospital depends a lot on the service attitude, dedication and sense of responsibility of the nurses themselves. Therefore, in recent years, the Ninh Binh Health sector has always paid attention to and developed this team, thereby contributing to improving the quality of medical examination and treatment.
Currently, the Ninh Binh health sector has more than 1,500 nurses, technicians, and midwives working at medical facilities in the province. Of these, over 83% of nurses, midwives, and technicians have college degrees or higher (university degrees account for 35%, post-graduate degrees account for more than 1.8%); ensuring the roadmap for standardizing college degrees according to regulations of the Ministry of Health by 2025. Every year, over 90% of nurses working at hospitals and medical centers are continuously updated with medical knowledge according to industry regulations.
Along with doctors in the process of caring for and protecting people's health, nurses, midwives, and technicians with their dedication, always loving and caring for patients as if they were their own relatives, have contributed to encouraging the spirit of patients and their families, helping them reduce mental fatigue during the examination and treatment process.
Identifying this as an important force in serving and caring for patients, ensuring patient safety, in recent years, the Ninh Binh Health sector has always paid attention to training and improving nursing management capacity for Head Nurses of units, organizing competitions to improve professional skills, communication skills, procedures and regulations of the sector in performing professional tasks of patient care. Master Nguyen Dang Nguyen, Head of Nursing and Social Work Department, Provincial General Hospital said: In the professional activities of the hospital, the role of nurses in medical examination and treatment is indispensable. Because in addition to the time doctors examine and prescribe treatment, most of the remaining time, nurses are the main people in contact with patients. Taking care of all the needs of patients, from specialized techniques such as injections, giving medicine, changing bandages, helping patients breathe, eat, excrete, exercise, maintain body temperature, perform tests... to taking care of the mental health of patients, helping patients get used to the hospital environment, transferring to another hospital or going to a specialist... It can be said that the quality of a medical facility depends largely on the attitude, dedication and devotion of the nurses themselves.
Nurse Pham Khanh Tung, staff of the Oncology Center, Provincial General Hospital said: Cancer patients often have to endure both physical and mental pain. Together with the doctors, in addition to treating patients to escape "death's door", we also take meticulous and dedicated care of the patients as if they were our own relatives. There are situations where young patients have serious illnesses, while their family circumstances are difficult... Therefore, along with medical therapies, we also apply psychological therapy, sharing, encouraging, and comforting so that patients can be more optimistic in facing their illness, have the best spirit, cooperate in treatment, and prolong their lives...

Over the past time, the Provincial Nursing Association has coordinated with the functional departments of the Department of Health, the Trade Union and units and hospitals in the province to seriously and effectively implement the activities and emulation movements of the industry, achieving the Nursing Professional Ethics Standards. Thereby, continuing to affirm that nursing is an important link in the process of medical examination and treatment in particular, and taking care of and protecting people's health in general.
Nowadays, along with the development of society, people's demand for health care is increasing, requiring medical examination and treatment services to constantly develop in both quantity and quality. In particular, nurses are the force that accounts for a large proportion in medical facilities, regularly and continuously in contact with patients. Services provided by nurses account for the majority of medical services and are directly related to human health and life. WHO has assessed: "Health care services provided by nurses and midwives are the pillars of the health system"...
Playing an important role in medical examination and treatment, however, in addition to the achieved results, the nursing work of the province still faces difficulties in terms of funding and time for activities. The demand for medical examination and treatment and the requirements of society and management levels on professional expertise and communication of the nursing team are increasing while the mechanism and policies still have many shortcomings and many pressures such as staff reduction, autonomy mechanism, administrative procedures for medical examination and treatment under health insurance, medical service prices...
In particular, from 2020 to now, the COVID-19 pandemic has affected all aspects of social life, in which medical staff in general and nursing staff in particular are the frontline soldiers in the fight against the epidemic. Many hospitals are overloaded with patients, leading to overloaded nursing staff, so the quality of care sometimes and in some places cannot meet the needs of patients in a timely manner. Nurses' initiative and professionalism in performing the task of caring for and monitoring patients are not high, and there is still a passive mentality in their work...
