Facing Palestine (ranked 94th in the world) during FIFA Days, the Vietnamese team started the match quite slowly against an opponent one level higher than them with many changes in the starting lineup.
During the 90 minutes of play, Coach Troussier showed vision and the right choice in substitutions when the players coming off the bench brought home 1 goal and assist.
After a stalemate in the first 45 minutes between the two teams, Cong Phuong was sent onto the field by the French strategist at the beginning of the second half along with young player Tuan Duong. On the field, Cong Phuong opened the score for Vietnam in the 61st minute after a pass that tore through the visitors' defense by Hoang Duc.
This is also Cong Phuong's goal after nearly 2 years of silence (the most recent goal in the group stage of the AFF Cup 2020 in the match against the Malaysian team).
Cong Phuong breaks the deadlock for Vietnam against Palestine
After Cong Phuong's goal, Vietnam's attack continued to be strengthened with the appearance of Van Toan and Van Luan, playing with great excitement. In less than 10 minutes on the field, Van Toan affirmed the correctness of Coach Troussier's decision to make a substitution.
It was the player who is playing in Korea who accelerated past the Palestine defender and assisted Tuan Hai to defeat his opponent in the 78th minute.
In the remaining minutes, goalkeeper Dinh Trieu made an excellent save before Viet Anh cleared the ball on the goal line for Vietnam, which were the last two notable situations of the match.
Van Toan assisted Tuan Hai to score the winning goal 2-0.
In the first half, the away team had a resilient match, a solid defense and a better attack than Vietnam when they had 2 shots on target compared to the home team's rather deadlocked efforts.
With that situation, Quang Hai was the only bright spot in coach Troussier's starting lineup in the first 45 minutes when he played enthusiastically, creating delicious opportunities for his teammates.
Vietnam faced many difficulties in the first half.
In addition, two other notable situations for Vietnam were the injuries of two out of three Hai Phong FC players on the field, Viet Hung and Trung Hieu. In particular, Viet Hung suffered a head injury after a situation of fighting for a high ball, causing his teammates to shout loudly for a doctor.
Trung Hieu, after struggling to play from the 2nd to the 10th minute, was forced to leave the field. The opponent Palestine was also forced to replace 2 players on the field.
Despite scoring and winning, Cong Phuong shared after the match that he was not satisfied with his performance. "The whole team tried hard to win today, Phuong is not satisfied with his performance in this victory. They are a Middle Eastern opponent with good technique and physical strength, but Vietnam also has strengths and was quite balanced in the match."
This victory will conclude Vietnam's FIFA Days in September. Coach Troussier's team's next match will take place in November when they visit Uzbekistan.
